NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia -– While the reconstruction of the Synagogue in the Central Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod continues, it is already hosting communal celebrations and events. The latest of these gatherings was organized especially for children in order to create a festive atmosphere for them during their winter break.

On this fun-filled day, the building was turned into a virtual 'fortress', with the youngsters challenged with different 'assignments'. With guidance from their knowledgeable counselors, these enthusiasts had a different task to fulfill at each 'stage' of this intriguing role-playing game before they could enter the next room of the 'fort'.

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia -– While the reconstruction of the Synagogue in the Central Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod continues, it is already hosting communal celebrations and events. The latest of these gatherings was organized especially for children in order to create a festive atmosphere for them during their winter break.

On this fun-filled day, the building was turned into a virtual ‘fortress’, with the youngsters challenged with different ‘assignments’. With guidance from their knowledgeable counselors, these enthusiasts had a different task to fulfill at each ‘stage’ of this intriguing role-playing game before they could enter the next room of the ‘fort’.

This highly entertaining day featured a viewing of a presentation, film and photos on the ‘Gan Israel’ camp, where they were even able to see images of themselves and their counselors. Other highlights included games and knowledge-based contests on Jewish culture and traditions, art and craft sessions, and delicious kosher treats for everyone. The parents of these keen kids were likewise engaged with a variety of activities, through which they learned more about their own heritage and leading a Jewish lifestyle.

Before the families returned home from the ‘virtual fortress’, the Jewish community of Nizhny Novgorod – a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia – was happy to present each of the participants with a memorable gift to round out this joyous day of activities.
