Shluchos Raise Money for Those Who Can’t Afford to Fly to the Kinus

About 8 years ago, a shlucha was shocked to hear that a fellow shlucha wanted to join her sister shluchos at the kinus and couldn’t. She didn’t have a newborn. She wasn’t due to give birth then. She wasn’t hosting a Chabad simcha in her shul right then that she had to stay back for. The only thing holding her back was the lack of funds for the plane ticket. This shlucha grew up in a home where the importance of the kinus to the Rebbe had been a key in making sure that her parents were always at the kinus.

That day, this Shlucha began a fund to help shluchos who couldn’t afford the plane tickets. Now, as a team with another shlucha who stepped up to work together, these shluchos reach out to shluchos and anash worldwide to help their fellow community leaders to attend the annual Kinus Hashluchos in New York.

The initiative, started 8 years ago as an email campaign, has grown into a full fledged effort to assist shluchos from all over the world who cannot afford the airfare to join their fellow shluchos at the annual Kinus Convention.

The kinus was really important to the Rebbe – so important that the fee for the actual kinus was not allowed to be more than just a symbolic amount, with the Rebbe covering the rest of it.

Shluchos who come in for the Kinus gain their inspiration for the year – enabling them to return to their communities and serve them with strength, joy and all that it takes to be a shlucha – especially in some of these far flung places!

The first year 15 Shluchos were helped with funds for tickets, and last year the number exceeded 30 shluchos, with over $30,000 plus thousands of airline miles raised. The Shluchos who were helped didn’t merely attend the conference, as many of them served on panels and spoke for the shluchos or for local organizations.

We can do that again with YOUR help. You can put a smile on a Shlucha’s face. Any amount is helpful as every dollar adds up!

The fund has received requests for tickets that cost $700 – $2,000 each.

Donations of all sizes are appreciated.
