North Carolinians Welcome New Torah

Some 300 community members and guests turned out for a special Torah dedication ceremony, parade and family fun fair at Chabad in Greensboro, NC.

The ceremony marked the completion of a brand new Torah scroll that will now find its home in the shul at the Chabad center, which is run by Rabbi Yosef and Hindy Plotkin. The new Torah was donated by benefactor Mr. Eli Zami.

“The Torah is a living guide for that instills our lives with life-giving values and an abiding connection with something greater, a power that reaches beyond the vicissitudes of life,” explains Rabbi Plotkin.

During the event, Rabbi Moshe Klein — a prominent scribe -– assisted participants in the writing of last several words of the Torah scroll while children stuffed toy Torah scrolls.

A lively procession danced along the streets with newly completed Torah, and then wound its way to the Chabad center. After the parade, everyone enjoyed a lavish Cookout, and plenty of activities for the children including a game truck, an inflatable slide, Cotton Candy and a moon bounce ride.

The guest list included Shluchim Rabbi Mendy Zarchi from Puerto Rico, Rabbi Pinny Herman from Raleigh, NC and Rabbi Levi Osdoba from Belle Harbor, NY. Also present were Rabbi Meir and Mrs. Plotkin, from Montreal, and Rabbi Hershel and Mrs. Zaklos from Detroit, MI.

Rabbi Plotkin would like to thank Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky for his generous support for Chabad in Greensboro.
