Historic Florida Church Will Be Chabad House

by Reuven Arazi

A beautiful two story building, registered by the city of Hollywood as “historic”, which was originally built in the early 1920’s, and for the first part of the last century was a Methodist Temple, was recently purchased by Chabad of Northeast Hollywood/Shul of the Lakes.

A vibrant Shul in existence for seven years, this new chapter of The Shul of the Lakes is attracting new people every week. The month of Tishrei was jam packed with services and activities, with over 120 children participating at one time for some of the services.

The Center is directed by the Shluchim Rabbi and Mrs. Mendy and Endi Tennenhaus, who also run the Chai Tots Preschool in Hallandale Beach, and Camp Gan Israel of South Broward, with campuses in Hollywood and Hallandale Beach. A lead gift towards this new Chabad House, was given by Mr And Mrs Moises Tabacinic, with the generous assistance of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, and the Sam Goldberg Trust. Chabad is now raising funds to remodel the building.

An old photo of the building, taken just after it had been built in the early 1920s.
