Dear Friend:

Each year hundreds of people within our community are arrested while driving with a suspended driver license. The Department of Motor Vehicles can suspend your driving privileges for a variety of reasons. The most common reason a license is suspended is if you don’t answer a traffic summons, or if you fail to pay the full fine or surcharge listed on the summons. If your license is suspended, it will remain in effect until you correct the condition that led to the suspension. All too often - hard working individuals end up in jail simply because they have neglected to answer traffic summonses.

Are You Driving With A Suspended License?

This letter was sent out by the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush, we are republishing it as it affects every single motor vehicle operator in New York State.

All too often – hard working individuals end up in jail simply because they have neglected to answer traffic summonses.

If you are caught in any of the following situations, your driver license will be REVOKED for at least ONE YEAR; Operating an uninsured vehicle Permitting another person to operate your uninsured vehicle. The DMV receives evidence that you were involved in a traffic accident without being insured.

If you are caught driving with a revoked driver license, the penalties are extremely harsh and can mean serving significant jail time and hefty fines. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

In order to find out if your license is suspended or revoked, we urge you to call the Department of Motor Vehicles during business hours – Monday-Friday at 718-488-5710 to find out the status of your driver license. Please make sure to have your license on hand so you can supply the necessary information.

Remember, if a Law Enforcement Officer stops you with a suspended or revoked driver license YOU GO TO JAIL. Make the phone call TODAY and encourage your friends and family to do the same. You can save yourself a lot of unwanted aggravation.

Does this include an expired license? And do the fines include parking fines?
The insurance thing is bull—t because insurance is not a safety issue but a monetary issue. that kinda borders on soviet style bullying…..probably enacted by a democrat

    whatever……

  • foreign license

A piece of advice for Canadians or other Foreigners…
If you get moving violations (speeding tickets and the like) in NY and you think that the “points” don’t matter bec. you don’t have an american license, be careful.
When you eventually apply for a license, your entire record will resurface sometime in the future. A friend of mine got their license revoked 1 YEAR after getting a NY license for speeding tickets he got more than a year before! IT takes time for the system to show up, especially since he did not have a US license during the time of the tickets… anyways, he certainly did not enjoy having a revoked license and neither lawyers nor money could get him out of it. A lesson for all.

Not even Moshe Rubashkin or the political fixer mister sperlin can help with the police when this happens.

  • Some1-s got to care for NY Drivers

For anyone who has not answered a moving violation. Can go to jail/and or fines will be issued if you or anyone you know does not pay them. It is not worth the trouble. So just pay the tickets and keep you insurance up to date so you don’t have to worry about a suspension. Also you can get a suspension for not paying those’s seat belt, cell phone, speeding and driving reckless.

  • call center hours

The ‘normal operating hours’ of the DMV call center are not the normal business hours, rather Mon-Fri **8:00am – 4:00pm**, 1 hour earlier than normal.

Yes, it includes an expired license. This has happened to two people I know. One person forgot to mail in the renewal – for this he spent a night in jail! Thank Giuliani, this is his policy.

The other person had a speeding ticket mailed to him from upstate, but he never got it; about a year later, on Erev Pesach, his license was suspended, and two hours later he was stopped and arrested. BH the arrest happened in another state, not in NYC, and so he was released two hours later with a summons to appear in court; if he had been in NYC he would have spent yomtov in jail.
