Students Rewarded for 115,000 Lines Learned by Heart

Oholei Torah once again has brought excitement and special chayos to its talmidim with the annual Mishnayos Ba’al Peh project.

The Rebbeim have repeatedly written that the foundation of chassideshe chinuch is to chazzer mishnayos wherever one may be. This project cultivates an atmosphere of kedusha and connection to the Rebbe and Yiddishkeit.

Tens of thousands of mishayos, perakim of tanya, blatt gemorah and yedios kloliyois were learned by heart.  220 talmidim of 5, 6 and 7th grade participated.

Together collectively the numbers are truly astonishing! – Over 115,000 lines were learned in total! – 64,000 lines of Mishnyaos, 13,000 line of Tanya, 12,000 lines of Gemora, and 40,000 lines of Yedios Kloliyos.

In more recent years, a website was set up to follow the progress of the talmdim. To see a full listing of the project, and the phenomenal achievements of the talmidim, visit www.baalpeh.com/ny/oholei-torah/summary.html.

The project was run by Rabbi Yehoshua Lustig, Menahel of grades 5,6 and 7th grades, Rabbi Yoni Lefkowitz, Assistant Menahel, and Hatomim Nochum Cohen, Director of the Mishnayos Ba’al Peh project.

The program started Rosh Chodesh Shvat and continued till Yud Aleph Nissan, when Rabbi Lustig brought the names and accomplishments to the Rebbe’s Ohel as a gift from the Oholei Torah talmdidm.

This past week a grand finale was held with the distribution of prizes. The talmidim were able to choose from a wide array of seforim, all according the points they accrued in the Mishnayos project.

At the event, in addition to the awards, two students were recognized: Sholom Dov Ber Hendel, of 6th grade, as the Chasan Hayeshiva, for learning the entire seder of Zeroim, in addition to many other Ba’al Peh accomplishments

The second talmid was Yossi Rabinowitz of grade 6. He was named S’gan Chosson Hayeshiva as he learned the entire seder Moed and other learning projects. Both were tested on the entire seder at one time.

At the finale, R’ Sholom Ber Rabinwitz, a parent, spoke to the talmidim. Rabbi Hershel Lustig also addressed the gathering. Rabbi Lustig began the mishnayos Ba’ale Peh project over 35 years ago, and is very pleased to see how it is blossoming today.

Following the event, an art and presentation projects viewing was held – honoring 40 years since the Rebbe instituted the 12 pesukim. – The art project was made by Grades 7.

Many parents and grandparents joined the event, all schepping yiddeshe nachas as they watched their sons receive the recognition they deserved for their hard work.
