Manhole Fire Burns Two Cars

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — A large column of black smoke was visible just moments ago on Kingston and Eastern Parkway and a strong stench of acidic smoke filled the intersection. A parked minivan was going up in flames as firefighters battled the blaze.

12th Chabad House Opens in South Broward

Hallandale Beach, Florida — The Jewish Senior Center recently opened in Hallandale Beach, Florida, making it the twelfth Chabad House to open and operate in South Broward County, Florida.

Situated diagonally across the street from Chabad of South Broward Headquarters on Hallandale Bch Blvd, the Jewish Senior Center is run by Chabad Chayil of Highland Lakes. It is a cultural and social service center geared for South Florida’s large senior population.

Two Bochurim Assaulted with a Weapon at Lefferts Park

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Two Bochurim were assaulted at Lefferts Park on Shabbos afternoon. Police, Hatzalah and Shomrim all responded to the call which took place on Lefferts and Albany when the two Bochurim were assaulted by two Male Hispanics using brass knuckles.

Hit and Run Accident on Empire and Troy

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — At around 10:00pm on Motzoai Shabbos a minivan driving up Troy Ave was rear ended by a large SUV at the intersection of Empire Blvd. The driver, a woman, was complaining of back pains and not feeling well. 911 was called and FDNY EMS and Police responded.

Baruch Dayan Hoemes – Mrs. Ethel Zukor OBM

With great sorrow the news has been received a few moments ago about the passing in good old age of Mrs. Ethel Zuckor OBM, Mother of Mrs. Shaindel Marantz and Mrs. Rivka Kaye of Kfar Chabad. She passed away at the age of 102.

She merited to see her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren who go in the way of Chassidus and are occupied with the Rebbe’s Shlichus. Her long life was attributed to when she once passed by the Rebbe for dollars, the Rebbe blessed her with Arichus Yomim.

The funeral will set out today, 29 Tamuz, 6:30pm from her daughter Shaindel Marantz’s home, 205 New Shikunim Kfar Chabad, Israel, and at 8:00pm it will set out from the Bait Shamgar Funeral Home to the Mount of Olives ”Har Hazaisim”.

Officer Dies From Wounds Sustained During Brooklyn Shooting

Officer Russel Timoshenko, the young police officer shot Monday during a traffic stop in Brooklyn, has died.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Saturday evening that Timoshenko passed at the Kings County Hospital surrounded by family and members of the 71st Precinct.

“He made the ultimate sacrifice with unflinching sacrifice to do it; we are more committed than ever to the prosecution of the individuals responsible for his death,” said Kelly.

Kelly said Timoshenko passed away on his own; he had been paralyzed, suffered brain swelling, and was unable to breathe on his own since the shooting.

Rabbi Levy Works to Build Jewish Community

Louisville, KY — Rabbi Yosef Levy came to Louisville in 1999 to be the Orthodox Union’s (OU) kosher supervisor in Kentuckiana. In that capacity, he inspects nearly 100 food production facilities in an area stretching from London, KY, to Indianapolis, to Buckner to Bowling Green.

His job is demanding, involving long hours of travel, sometimes at short notice, and great attention to details.

But as a Chabad rabbi, he also feels it is incumbent upon himself to become part of the community he calls home, and to work to bring that community together and strengthen it.

Zhitomir Jewish Community Reacts to Anti-Semitism

Zhitomir, Ukraine – In response to a recent wave of anti-Semitism experienced in Zhitomir and in hope of drawing attention to this growing problem, the city’s Jewish community has sent a letter to a number of agencies, including the Zhitomir Regional Administration, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the state Security Service, the Israel Embassy and various other administrative organs.

Residents Attend a Prayer Vigil for the Injured Officers

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Around 5:00pm on Wednesday evening a prayer vigil took place in front of the 71st Precinct which serves the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn and is the Precinct which Officers Russell Timoshenko and Herman Yan served. Tens of residents gathered in front of the Precinct on the corner of Empire Blvd and New York Ave along with community leaders and activists to pray for the recovery of Officer Timoshenko who was critically injured in a shooting earlier this week.
