NEW YORK, NY — Struggling to subdue a crazed suspect, an NYPD cop broke a cardinal rule of law enforcement and handed his gun to a Manhattan janitor, telling his stunned new deputy, “I need some help here,” The Post has learned.

Even though his idea of backup usually involves clogged drains, Placido Contreras, 51, said he took hold of the weapon and pointed it at the floor after the cop told him, “Keep your eyes on him and shoot him if you have to.”

Car Burst into Flames on Eastern Pkwy

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Later afternoon Friday a car driving on Troy Ave and Easern Pkwy burst into flames. The incident happened as the vehicle, driven by a Black male was coming up onto the intersection of Eastern Pkwy from Troy Ave. He saw smoke coming out of his hood, and quickly pulled over and called 911.

The incident took place near the supermarket on Empire Blvd and Albany Ave. The boy who was holding his mothers hand, slipped free for a minute and was hit by a truck.

BROOKLYN, NY — At least 20 students, around ages 11 to 15, were injured around 10:30 a.m. on Friday when a grate gave way under them outside a Brooklyn school, causing them to fall into a basement, the authorities said. Fifteen students were taken to Maimonides Medical Center, according to the Fire Department, and an assemblyman said that other injured students were taken to New York Methodist Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center.
