Hebrew School Sends Chanukah Package to Soldier

Several students of Rabbi Pesach’s Burston’s Chabad Hebrew School class pose for a photo with Jarrett Joyce, center, holding the Chanukah package they made for his father, Michael, who is a US soldier in Afghanistan. A copy of this photo was also included in the package send to Mr. Joyce.

Celebrating the holidays are always more joyous when celebrated with family. For the Joyce family of Highland Falls, NY this won’t be possible this year as their dad, Michael, is a US soldier in Afghanistan helping to fight the war on terror.

Over 200 people gathered Wednesday night adjacent to the Lincolnwood, IL Village Hall to celebrate Chanukah. The event was titled “Occupy Lincolnwood – with the light of Chanukah.” Channel 5 and Channel 7 were thinking it was a real Occupy event. Needless to say they were quite disappointed that they were duped, it was a village-wide Chanukah party.

Chabad Illuminates City Hall with LA Mayor Villaraigosa

LOS ANGELES, CA [CHI] — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined West Coast Chabad’s Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin, city officials and community leaders to usher in the Festival of Lights by illuminating the historic Katowitz Menorah at LA City Hall today. The 26th annual ceremony at LA City Hall, sponsored by West Coast Chabad, took place on the landmark Spring Street Steps of City Hall, bringing holiday greetings to promote Chanukah’s universal message of freedom, hope, and light.

Every now and than you get introduced to a song that just has “it..” A song that really moves, its lyrics are simple yet poignant, its message universal. These were my feelings when I heard this song for the first time. And as I looked over to the dance floor I realized I was not alone. The guests at this wedding, from all walks of life, were surging with energy as the first few bars of this song began. It was an awesome thing to behold.
