HaGaon HaRav Menachem Mendel Mendelson ZT”L, the Rav of Komomiyut, Israel for the past 33 years, was niftar today, 27 Cheshvan, 5772. The Rav was a dear and close friend of Lubavitch, particularly close with Rabbi Moshe Havlin of Kiryat Gat, and participated in many Lubavitcher events.
In the above video clip, Rabbi Mendelson tells the Rebbe that the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat is in need of financial help. The Rebbe tells him to find 2 more Rabbis (anyone with smicha) and pasken that they should get money. Op-Ed: Chomsky, Friedman and the Politics of Protests
On Oct 24, I protested a visit to Yale University by noted journalist, Thomas Friedman. After his lecture, I stood in the corner of the Whitney Humanities Center and held a sign that asked the question: “With friends like Chomsky, Soros, Mearsheimer and Thomas Friedman, does Israel need enemies?”

Harlem Gives Birth to First Torah Scroll in 75 Years
Not too long ago, it might have been one of the least likely locations from where a religious scribe would start writing a Torah scroll, but on Sunday, families and friends affiliated with a Jewish center in the New York City neighborhood of Harlem gathered to celebrate just such an occasion.

A few weeks ago, when I submitted my column to Malibu Patch editor Jonathan Friedman, I was asked if the B”H at the top of the page was part of the column. After I explained what it means, we decided to leave it to another time, when I could address its meaning and importance.

It baffles me why so many authors and commenters on this website seem to feel as though people who do not act or think as they do are doing something wrong, and that they do so for all the same negative, prejudiced stereotype reasons (bad home, life, schooling etc). I am constantly reminded of the old saying that “everyone who does more than you is a fanatic and everyone who does less is an apostate.”
