Jewish singing duo 8th Day was in Israel for the first time last week. The duo’s last hit, “Ya’alili”, was rated one of the top videos in Israel, the U.S. and Australia. The song’s clip on YouTube has now had more than 1.5 million views.

Colonel Jack Wolfson was a career Jewish soldier in the American army who had served for over 30 years. He was my commanding officer when I arrived to be the chaplain at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1965. Even though there was not much time before the holidays when we arrived, I was determined to make Simhat Torah, which was on a Saturday night and Sunday, a really thrilling experience. We had only one Torah scroll, but I was sure that we could get flags. Not as easy as I thought.

Eli Oppenheimer celebrated the most recent High Holiday by busting a move. A fourth-year University of Florida dental student, Oppenheimer was among UF students who danced until 2 a.m. Tuesday at Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student and Community Center to celebrate Simchat Torah, the end of the High Holy Days period.
