Juanita Holmes to become NYPD’s First Female Chief of Patrol

NYPD Chief Juanita Holmes was named the department’s new chief of patrol Thursday, making her the first woman to hold the position in the law enforcement agency’s 175-year history.

Holmes – whose promotion takes effect Friday — replaces outgoing chief of patrol Fausto Pichardo who abruptly resigned earlier this month following what police sources have said was frustrations with micromanagement from Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea made the historic announcement during de Blasio’s City Hall press briefing Thursday.
