New App Lets New Yorkers Pay for Parking by Phone

Parking is one of the biggest headaches in New York City, but a new app may be about to make things easier. Drivers will soon be able to pay for street parking via their cell phones, with the city having partnered with Parkmobile to create an app for payments at all of the city’s street meters.

The de Blasio administration on Monday announced the introduction of ParkNYC, what it calls a new and convenient way to pay for on-street parking in New York City. ParkNYC allows motorists to remotely pay for parking using an online system that links registered license plate numbers to NYPD traffic enforcement agents’ handheld devices that confirm payment.

This exists in Minnesota as well for already quite a few years, New York is way behind as usual!

We have it in Israel – no more searching for change or even a ticket machine. And if I am a km away I just reset if the time is up. Inspectors come round with their machines & I get a text telling me my car was checked but not to worry – I have Pango Plus!! NY is certainly backward in this technology.

We have this in Miami for 4 years now.. You register your license plate number on the app. The parking patrol cars have a radar above their cars that scan license plates as they drive through the block. It then notifies the officer if any of the cars are not paid..

Parking tickets in Miami are $18, so most locals don’t pay anyway. You get ticketed 1 every 5 times you park.. It comes out cheaper or the same as paying every time :)
