Muslim Woman Arrested for Lying About Subway Attack

Yasmin Seweid, an 18-year-old Baruch College student, was arrested and charged with filing a false police report after initially claiming that she was harassed and called a “terrorist” by three young men on the subway – who purportedly identified themselves as Donald Trump supporters.

Seweid approached police on December 1st and claimed that she had been accosted by the men after she boarded a uptown No. 6 train at East 23rd St.

She claimed the men told her “you don’t belong here” and referred to her hijab as a “rag.” She also reported that one of the men grabbed her bag, breaking the strap, and another tried to take off her hijab.

Many people became suspicious of the story when no witnesses of the attack came forward, and only one of the men she described could be found on security footage.

Seweid posted to Facebook about the attack on Dec. 2, saying that “it breaks my heart that so many individuals chose to be bystanders while watching me get harassed verbally and physically by these disgusting pigs.”

Police originally investigated the case as an anti-Muslim bias incident.
