Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Rabbi Mordechai Sufrin, 79, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Mordechai Sufrin, OBM, a noted educator and renowned lecturer for over fifty years in London, UK. He was 79 years old.

Rabbi Mordechai was a world renowned speaker and educator for over fifty years, Rabbi Sufrin has touched many with his depth, passion, inspiration and his signature sense of humor.

He merited to teach thousands of students who would go on to positively influence the world. “I will always remember his absolute certainty in the ability of everyone of his students to succeed” wrote a student of his following the notice of his passing.

“With great sadness I report to you the passing of a great man a great educator a wonderful father and grandfather and great grandfather” wrote Rabbi Zalman Bukiet about his father-in-law, noting that for many years contributed his knowledge to his community in Boca Raton, Florida.

For many years he ran “Advanture Camp” for teenage boys during the summer months, up until a few years ago. For many, the camp was an exciting opportunity and couldn’t wait to participate.

He was also a noted expert in the halochos of Shiluach Hakan and in Mezuzos.

He maintained a personal fund from which he helped pay the school tuition for boys and girls. When he recently fell ill his family set up an online fund to raise money for the fund in order to give him Chizuk [strength] and over $10,000 was donated. The campaign is still ongoing and if you would like to contribute you can by Clicking Here.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of this very special neshama.
One of my favorite teachers in school, spoke at my bar mitzvah, we ran camp together in Wales and we were zoche to spend many hours together sitting in his seforim packed dining room discussing many things personal and communal.
I always went to him for advice as he had a keen sense of what was important and what wasn’t and always managed to find the right words and approach, always with his chassidisher point of view, signature smile, warmth and of course a good joke.
A truly wonderful person whom I will sorely miss.

As a young married man I took advantage of his wise council to guide my learning. In later life I helped in some way with his adventure camp. We lost touch but his upbeat and light-hearted approach will always be remembered.
