With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Chana Rochel Hurwitz, OBM, of Jerusalem, Israel, matriarch of a large family of Chassidim, Rabbonim and Shluchim all over the world.

Mrs. Hurwitz, wife of Rabbi Pinchas Halevi Hurwitz, OBM, was known to have a warm and welcoming home that was open to anyone who was in need, either physically or spiritually.

During WWII, her family fled to Siberia and then Samarkand from the Nazis. While there, her father, Rabbi Sholom Lishner, HYD, was arrested and murdered by the Soviet authorities for refusing to desecrate the Shabbos or report on his fellow Jews.

She is survived by her 2 daughters and 11 sons: Rabbi Mordechai Yehoshua Hurwitz (Jerusalem, Israel), Rabbi Sholom Hurwitz (Crown Heights), Rabbi Moshe Hurwitz (Beitar, Israel), Rabbi Dovid Hurwitz (Lod, Israel), Rabbi Yaakov Noach Hurwitz (Bnei Brak, Israel), Rabbi Shlomo Leib Hurwitz (Jerusalem, Israel), Rabbi Yisroel Zushe Hurwitz, Rabbi Tzvi Hurwitz (Jerusalem, Israel) and Rabbi Avrohom Yitzchok Hurwitz (Jerusalem, Israel) Rabbi Reuven Hurwitz (Beitar, Israel) and Rabbi Shmuel Hurwitz (Beitar, Israel); along with many generations of descendents following in her ways.
