Israeli Company Creates Breakthrough Parkinson’s Treatment

From OnlySimchas.com:

In a medical breakthrough, an Israeli company has developed a successful treatment for Parkinson’s disease. In a rare procedure, brain surgery was performed to treat Parkinson’s and its subsequent shaking via ultrasound waves.

The surgery was done in Haifa’s Rambam Hospital, and was done during the annual conference International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU) held last Tuesday.

The complex and innovative surgery was developed by the innovative Israeli company InSightec. The procedure is performed utilizing ultrasound waves while the patient lies within a MRI machine wearing a special helmet. The surgeon uses a computer mouse instead of a knife.

After only an hour, the patient can get up and leave the hospital without shaking. The patient can regain their quality of life which has been lost due to Parkinson’s disease.

  • Factually incorrect

It wasn’t an Israeli breakthrough and it has been done multiple times before, this is just the first time it was done in Israel. It would do you well to do some fact checking before posting,

I believe this was done in Canada a few months ago. The concept of using ultrasound to breach the blood-brain barrier so as to allow medication-loaded bubbles in the bloodstream to get that medicine deeper into the brain has been around for a little while now. I just hope that they can start making this the new standard for a number of brain conditions, not just Parkinson’s.

I have a brother that is 72 years old and has Parkinson’s disease. I would love to find someone or some place that can help. He has his good days and his bad days, his bad days are when he has a lot of shaking. I would be willing to take him wherever he needs to go for effect treatment. He is on medication, but not sure if it is helping.
My brother resides in the Florida area.
If there is anybody that can give me some information for help for my brother, I would gladly appreciate it.

    Thank you
