Yungerman Arrested After Receiving Double Parking Ticket

According to eyewitnesses the summonsing officer manhandled the Yungerman in the middle.

At around 5:00 this afternoon a member of Anash double parked his car on Crown St. between Schenectady and Troy to unload luggage, he had just arrived from the airport for a stay in Crown Heights, when a police officer wrote him a $115 ticket.

According to numerous eyewitnesses the trunk and the door was open “basically; it was clear that he was unloading things from his car” and one bystander even approached the officer that was issuing the summons and asked him “Why are you ticketing him? Can’t you see he is unloading?” to which the officer simply ignored him. When the driver came out the officer was just about to leave, the yungerman asked him why did he issue him the summons as it was obvious he was unloading, in which case the office again replied with ignoring him.

The Yungerman decided he will stand up for himself and stood in front of the police car denying the office from leaving the scene. This is where everything went awry. According to by standing witnesses the office got out of his car and grabbed the driver pushing him up onto the sidewalk where he then called for backup and arrested him.

This officer is a dedicated to giving out tickets and has been spotted numerous times giving out tickets for the most minor offenses, and then you wonder why crime is going up.

Later efforts made by members of the community to release him failed and he was processed and sent down to central booking, where he spending the night in a holding cell, and will be released in the morning.

Official statement from the 71st Pct. Is that the car appeared to have been double-parked and there was no sign of active unloading. Another point mentioned is that a police office is not required to answer you, but you do have a right to demand a patrol supervisor, which upon request must be provided.

C.O. Ins. Vega (L) on the scene of the arrest.

  • Fighting mad

The same officer wrote me a ticket when I was stopped at a hydrant, standing next to my car. He pulled up, blocked my car so I couldn’t move and got out to write me a ticket. When I said "Please don’t write me a ticket, I’ll move," he said " I already started writing it." He THEN walked over to my car and started writing it. I know how yesterday’s victim felt because I felt like punching the police officer! Two witnesses saw what he did and I am planning to fight it. The normal behavior would be to pull up and say "Excuse me, please move your car or I will have to give you a ticket." But why be normal when you can harass people with your imagined "power?"

  • resident of crown street

ENOUGH Already!! In boro park they lit bonfires and got results. Here? nothing.
This ticket blitz has got to stop. Whatever happened to Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect!

While the Yungerman was being arrested by half the precint, our Goyishe ‘neighbors’ were yelling ‘Lock up that Jew’! If we don’t stand up for ourselves who will?

Can there be a grassroots protest arranged. Or will one Rov agree and then the other forbid?

  • NOT SMART

Im sorry, I know its a jew but you dont start with a cop. Why did this guy have to stand in the cops way? If he would have fought the ticket he would have won. Not smart. By the way the cop is wrong too.

  • not from around here.....

This is ridiculous !!! If the cops patroled more like this and were on the look out for murderers and muggers they may have a better success rate in catching the bad guys. To ignore someone is beyond me, you have to ask for a supervisor ??? Give me a break. The NYPD needs to be investiagted and audited.

  • Yael

Unfortunately, this was not the time for the bocher to decide to stand up for himself. Being that there were witnesses to the officer giving him a ticket and even people asking the officer not to do so, the bocher should have just taken the ticket and then taken down the witnesses’ names and made a complaint to the police chief. He should have also sent a copy of his complaint to the mayor and any other people of city importance.

I don’t know the traffic laws of NY, but I do know that doubleparking is a problem and dangerous no matter where it is done. I’m not saying the police were justified in giving the ticket. They certainly could have given the bocher some slack, but they were within their rights. The fact that on this website and on shmais the bocher’s fatigue was mentioned just shows that he was tired and not thinking straight when he stood in front of the policeman’s car. Considering all the mishigoss going on in Crown Heights, he should have realized that an angry young man jumping in front of a policecar was not going to go over well with the men in uniform.

I am sorry for the young man’s ticket and having to go to jail. But the whole affair might have just cost him $115 in a fine and some anger, rather than having a bunch of cops manhandle him and take him down to the station.

Very stupid thing to do. That’s why there is a traffic court where these things can be fought before a judge.

Whats more important a guy who double parked for 2 minutes with out harming any one or a 11 yr old girl who was mugged?I think the police should start taking care of things that are more important!!!!

  • Chaim Katz

What we can learn from this story is twofold

A)NEVER do anything to provoke a police officer
in crown heights just take the ticket like a man!!!

    B) These police officers have no fear of being
questiont on their actions. In other words
the relationship of our comuninty elders with the police rank and file is terible. Why? They are busy arguing with one another which = no time for Chesed.

    Thanks

  • common sense

the cops are obviously not the most courtious and we have to learn to live with that, the jewish guy made a huge mistake when he decided to take "actions in his own hands". he should have realized that you cant win with the NYPD. there are 20,000 of them and only 1 of him.
i feel very bad for his $115.00 ticket, it WAS unfair if all the facts are true. however, he should have just left it at that. there are ways to fight it. you dont go make a chilul hashem (yes a chillul hashem, not a protest)
i guess he learnt his lesson.
hmmmm…. pay $115 (or get a lawyer and fight it) OR… spend the night in a caged cell next to a shvartze who g-d knows what hes in for???? hmmmmm (SAYCHEL PPL, USE UR SAYCHEL!)

i have an idea/question: what does everyone here think of the idea of bringing a whole bunch of donuts or the like to the 71 pct like for the night shift or whenever, and writing on the box or a note "on behalf of the crown heights jewish community, we thank you etc etc".
i think its a great idea, because if you cant beat em’, join em’!
what i mean is that if we show them that we know they are there, and we are watching how they treat and "protect" us, they will probably try to be nicer and maybe do a better job. why fight them if its pointless?! why oppose and reject them? we have no choice, they are OUR police, they will be here whether we like it or not so we might as well embrace it rather then reject it.
maybe next time a police officer sees a double parked car on kingston ave or crown st, he will drive past it because he will be enjoying the donut in his mouth (or his memory) that he knows came from us.
lemme know if you think this is a good or bad idea. (haha im starting my own poll on your site webby lol)

  • Itzik_s

How is anyone supposed to know that you have to demand a "patrol supervisor?" This is ridiculous!

  • Carroll Street Blues

How come at this same time on Carroll Street between Albany & Troy from around 4pm untill 1.00 am ( on and off during those hours) there are double parked cars sitting and blaring rap music, youth playing football in the street, throwing the ball at Jewish passersby ( and at my car when I went to move it) and not one cop EVER gives them a ticket! On the rare instances that a cop turns up 45 mins after I call all they do (this has happened twice in 2 years!) is ask the driver to move the car!!!!!
It is because we are Jews and certain people whether they are cops or not are jealous of the Jew because that’s what their "reverends" tell em, and they will do anything they can do cause agmas nefesh to "The Jew".
This putz would never ticket a black man double parked and using their car as a portable stereo coz he’s happy that the Jew suffers.
Where the heck is the CHJCC in all this?! Nowhere, as usual! They are comfortable in their homes and don’t give a rat’s posterior about the crim and quality of life on other blocks.
BB from the CHJCC once told someone from the block who complained about the noise and gunshots on the block (and I quote) "No one told you to come and live here"
I think that that sums it all up.

  • C.H. victim of police ignorance

This is typical of the ignorance of many many NYC police officer

They are nasty and feel that they dont need to answer to anyone

They are missing basic training of dealing with people.

they treat anyone and everyone like dogs

Its the same problem in Boro park, Flatbush I found is a bit better.

It is an obligation of the heads of this community to walk into the police station and DEMAND that these police officer go through training how to respect others. .

otherwise there is total misunderstanding and it leads to crazy situatuions like this.

many of these cops grew up with a dream of runing around with guns and bossing people around, and they now got their chance.

The only decent ones out there, to an extent, are the so caled "bosses" seargents.

I suggest whenever there is an issue with a cop, immediately request a boss.

  • echad hatmimim

what did he think he was gaining by standing in front of the police car like that???

  • Isaac

What the cops did is realy disgusting. They acted like at animals. At the same time, what happened to the yungerman’s CHABAD. It should have been obvious by the time the cop was driving away that he was not going to talk to the yungerman. Why stand in front of his car?
Crown Heights is going to the dogs latlely. I wish all the community leaders would see that their arguing is having an influence on the general shalom bais in Crown Heights, and for the sake of the community make peace. I feel their fighting is having a very adverse affect upon the community

  • eric dorfman

you do the crime you serve the time …get a life and pay tickets like the rest of the world

  • BigBen

The Yungerman and any eyewitness should file a complaint with the Police Review Board against this officer. It will go on his record and affect future promotions. If there are many complaints the officer may be repremanded, transferred or dismissed.

Also, please attend the 71st Police/Community meetings which occur on the 3rd Thursday of every month. You can voice your concers and talk directly to C.O. Frank Vega. He is there every meeting.

Do something, don’t just sit there.
Thank you Webby, keep up the great coverage.

  • DLR

Obey the laws, comply with the police. If you feel the summonse was unwarranted request a hearing by mail and plead not guilty. Not everything is a politcal statement.

  • marc

the 71st precinct is like any other business, they must give out tickets, and they love giving them out to the rich chasidim!
THIS BRAVE YUNGERMAN IS THE FIRS OF THOUSANDS WHO SUFFERED QUIETLY, TO STAND UP TO THESE CRIMINALS.

  • boroparker

Shame on you. You act like sissies and kiss up to your police leaders. You should have done what we did…….

  • Too disgusted to remain apathetic

I have a problem with all of you ‘liberals’ blaming the yungerman for blocking the car, he has a legal right to protest a wrongful ticketing – which IS what this was. The policr do not have the right to ticket someone during active loading or unloading even if they are parked in a no parking zone – especially in this case where the car WAS NOT LEFT UNATTENTED.

You ‘softies’ who say he should have used his CHABAD should try it yourself. If he is not from here (which he isn’t) how likely is it that he will simply be able to fight the ticket? And besides there is absolutely nothing wrong with respectfully demanding an explanation – which he did repeatedly! Since when is standing in the street an arrestable crime?!

The Shvartze over reacted and unfortunately for us we will all UNDER react. we are all just are too apathetic, too tired of our fighting ‘leaders’ to try to do anything.

What will it take to get us angry enough? A Rodney King style beating r"l?

The cops have a responsibility to be Professional, Corteous, and Respectful! and we should demand at least that from them!

  • Where-s the Vaad?

In answer to the question "where is the Vaad haKohol?" Most of the Vaad haKohol are hiding under rocks and the main man (to whom the cops are not supposed to speak anyhow) is on the lam. Well, you elected ’em.

  • Dovid

You people have to chill out majorly! This is a land of law and order, and the Police’s job is to enforce the rules set by our elected leaders. The fact that they have a passion for one part of their job while disregarding another only means we have to proactively push them to focus on the other stuff. But you can’t demonstrate the fact that they’re doing this part too well.

If you feel that you’ve been targeted unfairly, there is a system that allows you to battle the charges, and to vinticate youself. Raising hell and rioting only makes the cops hate us more. Everyone os bringing examples of Boro Park, but let me ask you a question: Do you think the riots in B.P. accomplished a thing other than creating a massive chilul Hashem?? I saw the news forrums that day; everyone was disgusted by the actions of the Chassidim, which outdid anyone’s expectations even for the co-dwellers of this borough. A person who refuses to listen to the police deserves arrest subsequent penalization. A person double parked deserves a ticket. The fact that he was unloading can be explained to the judge, and he will walk off scot-free.

I’m not blaming the Yungerman, as people will naturally get mad when they’re getting unfair ticket. But the reaction I see here, the calls to riots, the hate, the scapegoating, the pettiness, that is inexcusable.

    Gut Shabbos.

  • S H

Jews love to behave like sheep to the slaughter r"l, Kol Hakavod to this guy for standing up to himself. I was standing right at the door of my car with my hand on the door handle on Kingston & empire, 2 Police Be’hemos blocked my car with thier own car so that i could not drive anywhere, jumped out the car like wild animals and wrote me a ticket while i was sitting inside the car, thats called ESAV SONEH ES YACKOV, nothing else.

  • unfairly ticketed

i was once ticketed for being in a no-standing zone in CH. there was no sign on the side of the block i was n just the side.

so i went to fight it and you know what? i was found guilty!! somehow the judge tells me that if there is one sign on the block whether at the beginning of the block or the end, or even the other side, that is enough.

so i using my CHABAD and knowledge of the Talmud respectfully said:

"your honor, how then do you explain that throughout the whole block you ARE allowed to park, only at the end on the other side are you not as it is a no-standing zone."

    GUESS WHAT???!!!!

I STILL HAD TO PAY THE FINE OF $115.00

(by the way i also had pics of the signs on the block).

This whole comment was just to to answer all those people who are saying, "if it was unfair let him fight it, the judge will understand."

    NOT ALWAYS

    good shabbos

  • scot-free?

The chosid can fight the ticket, but he will very likely lose.
I had a similar situation and tried fighting it and they said that loading and unloading is only ok for a commercial vehicle for commercial purposes.
I understanded how the chosid feels. I also felt taken advantage of and violated.
the city should be looking for ways to accomodate parking needs, not just cashing in on the lack of legal parking spaces.

  • terorist

i think we should do what boro park did, but worse, for all the extra tickets they gave.

  • to Dovid

    Enforcement of the law is perfectly acceptable;
when it is not SELECTIVE enforcement of the law..and it should also be RESPECTFUL enforcement..!!!
If the police will not give a ticket to a stereo that drives, that is double parked for hours, just because it’s deejay happens to be black, and at the same time will go ticket unloading CIVILians; that is beyond the laws of the land. If you only follow their career for a half a day and watch the ‘simcha’ involved in their ‘mitzvah’..you will see that there is something wrong with it.
I only wish someone here found the money (amongst all the other lawsuits) to bring this to court.
Hey flippers, maybe this would be a good cause for your money!

BROOKLYN BROOKLYN BROOKLYN! ONLY IN BROOKLYN.
you wont find this in any other city or in any other state, only in BROOKLYN. it some ways its simply a SICK city.

  • yossy

we gotta go the boro park derech i.e riot for are riots judt like all the other minority did over the years suckeing up to the cops wont we gotta hit the streets or if needed the cells

  • That-s it!!!

    Enough!
This is what kind of officers are hired?!
Come on Chanina, and get down to the 71st priecint to end this NOW!

  • etorW

It’s no wonder why the crime rate is going up.
well, with such officers, you’ll get a ticket for parking in your own garage!

And of course, they get the crime rate to go down…
‘Cuze every crime in crown heights, they just say "it’s New york, you’ll have to get used to it."

And then we say that therir doing their job?!

  • ENRAGED

So thats why we have so much crime, the cops used over 5 officers to arrest this dangerous criminal.

This city is run like a business, why would you put your resources (the cops) to fight real crime when there is no money in it, the city needs money so they turned the cops into collectors, and who better to collect from then a town where there is no representation and will never even agree on a course of action….

  • couldn-t care less

the law is that you are not allowed to double park, no matter what, whether to unload, pick or drop someone off, wait on the side of the road…….

if the yungerman would have gone to court, he would have probably lost.

i once got a ticket (in boro park) while sitting in my car, with the engine running!!

the police have no respect or understanding for a situation where they are able to add another ticket to their "quota", especially where it comes to a yid, where they don’t have to fear that they have a gun under their seat!

very interesting to note the amount of tickets given in shvartz areas.

they know our community and they are out to get us. on fridays they are all over kingston all day! outside dovid malka they are always coming around. why? because they know they can give tickets and get away with it!

Know Your Rights: What to Do If You’re Stopped by the Police (7/30/2004)
To fight police abuse effectively you need to know your rights. There are some things you should do, some things you must do and some things you cannot do. If you are in the middle of a police encounter, you need a handy and quick reference to remind you what your rights and obligations are.

Print this page and carry it in your wallet, pocket, or glove compartment to give you quick access to your rights and obligations concerning police encounters. Download the PDF.

Think carefully about your words, movement, body language, and emotions.

Don’t get into an argument with the police.

Remember, anything you say or do can be used against you.

Keep your hands where the police can see them.

Don’t run. Don’t touch any police officer.

Don’t resist even if you believe you are innocent.

Don’t complain on the scene or tell the police they’re wrong or that you’re going to file a complaint.

Do not make any statements regarding the incident. Ask for a lawyer immediately upon your arrest.

Remember officers’ badge and patrol car numbers.

Write down everything you remember ASAP.

Try to find witnesses and their names and phone numbers.

If you are injured, take photographs of the injuries as soon as possible, but make sure you seek medical attention first.

If you feel your rights have been violated, file a written complaint with police department’s internal affairs division or civilian complaint board.

    1. What you say to the police is always important. What you say can be used against you, and it can give the police an excuse to arrest you, especially if you bad-mouth a police officer.

    2. You must show your driver’s license and registration when stopped in a car. Otherwise, you don’t have to answer any questions if you are detained or arrested, with one important exception. The police may ask for your name if you have been properly detained, and you can be arrested in some states for refusing to give it. If you reasonably fear that your name is incriminating, you can claim the right to remain silent, which may be a defense in case you are arrested anyway.

    3. You don’t have to consent to any search of yourself, your car or your house. If you DO consent to a search, it can affect your rights later in court. If the police say they have a search warrant, ASK TO SEE IT.

    4. Do not interfere with, or obstruct the police — you can be arrested for it.

IF YOU ARE STOPPED FOR QUESTIONING

    1. It’s not a crime to refuse to answer questions, but refusing to answer can make the police suspicious about you. If you are asked to identify yourself, see paragraph 2 above.

    2. Police may "pat-down" your clothing if they suspect a concealed weapon. Don’t physically resist, but make it clear that you don’t consent to any further search.

    3. Ask if you are under arrest. If you are, you have a right to know why.

    4. Don’t bad-mouth the police officer or run away, even if you believe what is happening is unreasonable. That could lead to your arrest.

IF YOU’RE STOPPED IN YOUR CAR

    1. Upon request, show them your driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. In certain cases, your car can be searched without a warrant as long as the police have probable cause. To protect yourself later, you should make it clear that you do not consent to a search. It is not lawful for police to arrest you simply for refusing to consent to a search.

    2. If you’re given a ticket, you should sign it; otherwise you can be arrested. You can always fight the case in court later.

    3. If you’re suspected of drunk driving (DWI) and refuse to take a blood, urine or breath test, your driver’s license may be suspended.

IF YOU’RE ARRESTED OR TAKEN TO A POLICE STATION
    1. You have the right to remain silent and to talk to a lawyer before you talk to the police. Tell the police nothing except your name and address. Don’t give any explanations, excuses or stories. You can make your defense later, in court, based on what you and your lawyer decide is best.

    2. Ask to see a lawyer immediately. If you can’t pay for a lawyer, you have a right to a free one, and should ask the police how the lawyer can be contacted. Don’t say anything without a lawyer.

    3. Within a reasonable time after your arrest, or booking, you have the right to make a local phone call: to a lawyer, bail bondsman, a relative or any other person. The police may not listen to the call to the lawyer.

    4. Sometimes you can be released without bail, or have bail lowered. Have your lawyer ask the judge about this possibility. You must be taken before the judge on the next court day after arrest.

    5. Do not make any decisions in your case until you have talked with a lawyer.

    IN YOUR HOME

    ——————————————————————————–

    1. If the police knock and ask to enter your home, you don’t have to admit them unless they have a warrant signed by a judge.

    2. However, in some emergency situations (like when a person is screaming for help inside, or when the police are chasing someone) officers are allowed to enter and search your home without a warrant.

    3. If you are arrested, the police can search you and the area close by. If you are in a building, "close by" usually means just the room you are in.

We all recognize the need for effective law enforcement, but we should also understand our own rights and responsibilities — especially in our relationships with the police. Everyone, including minors, has the right to courteous and respectful police treatment.

If your rights are violated, don’t try to deal with the situation at the scene. You can discuss the matter with an attorney afterwards, or file a complaint with the Internal Affairs or Civilian Complaint Board.

  • crazy!

this is a chutzpah!!!! its about time crown heights gets normal police officers!!!!!

  • eli

in traffic court you will be guilty unless you can prove the cop lied which is about never
if you get the city to drop the charges you can sue them for false arrest
and we should stand up for ourselves

  • Agree with Too disgusted...

What an upside down world – that it is a crime to
unload your car. What should one do – unload in the
sky, or wait until 2 am when there’s no one around and
unload your car, or go out to your car every time you
need something – because you don’t have the minutes
it takes to unload? ? ?

Aisav soneh es Jakov – and that’s worth standing up
for. Who, after a long tiring journey, has the whatever-
it-takes to remain silent and think it through – one tends
to react in the face of a clear unjust accusation.

Complaints should be filed against the officer or is
there nothing worth standing up for?

    Who Can File a Complaint

Anyone who has knowledge of police misconduct can file a complaint with the CCRB.

You can file a complaint regardless of your age.

You do not need to speak English; the CCRB is equipped to accept complaints in any language.

Why You Should File a Complaint with the CCRB

    Create a Record
By filing a complaint, you are making a permanent, official record that will remain on the officer’s history.

    Change the Officer’s Behavior
Filing a complaint at the CCRB can bring about discipline for the officer who commits misconduct. Because your complaint becomes part of an officer’s permanent record, even complaints that are not substantiated can serve to notify police supervisors about potentially abusive officers. Reporting misconduct could prevent others from having similar encounters with the officer.

    Change Police Department Practices
Complaints that you file can alert police commanders about abusive police practices within their precincts or other commands.

    Speak Directly to the Officer
If you choose to pursue mediation with an officer, you will have the satisfaction of discussing your complaint directly with the officer with whom you interacted.

    Receive a Fair Investigation
Filing a complaint at the CCRB gives you the opportunity to have your complaint fully and objectively investigated by the CCRB’s impartial civilian investigators.

You can file a complaint if you are currently incarcerated.

You should come forward with your complaint as soon as possible. Officers who are subjects of substantiated CCRB investigations must be disciplined or served with disciplinary charges within 18 months of the date of the incident. The only exception to the statute of limitations occurs when the alleged misconduct committed by the officer constitutes a crime.

someone recently broke into my car. Of course nothing was done about it. After all no money would come in. The would rather ticket someone and make easy 115!!

Not to mention all the gun shots, murder, theft, etc.. that goes on and no one does anything about it.

I think we have to get organized and follow (quitely) the police who ticket and proove on video how they discriminate. Once we have clear evidence we should make a VERY BIG SHTUREM!! and go with all the evidence to the press etc etc.

My heart goes out for the youngerman who got arrested. All does who say he deserves it are reshoim. AYid stays in jail and this is what you say!!!???
    Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • $115 ticket

same officer ticketed me. i doubled parked on crown and kingston, and left my door open. i walked over to a friend 20 ft away to pick up a bag and when i returned 25 sec. later the cop was alrady there and not willing to hear a thing.. he only said ‘you were double parked’

  • fight tickets

does anyone know a good way to fight these tickets???
    please post

Thanks for the list of rules in dealing with the police. While I definitely feel bad for the Bochur and there is no doubt that there is selective enforcement of the traffic laws, the police are not ordinary human beings and starting up with a police office is a serious issue. We can not teach our young ppl. to fight back with officers. We must use legal and political means to get action. For all the people who think that the Boro Parkers protest was so smart, can some residents of Boro Park tell us if less tickets are being written now. There would be anarchy if ppl. could fight or talk back to officers on the street! There has to be respect for authority whether they deserve it or not!! Hispalel Bishlomo shel malchus…and do your political Hishtadlus on the side.
Webby, this is a great site, the info, the photos and the comments are really fascinating…..

but—if a Jew wants to curse another Jew who did a wrong thing–do you have to allow this to be his forum??!!. C’mon a little mentschlechkeit!!! Yidden, saichel! What language!

technically, arent you allowed to drive away from the cop before he gives you the ticket?

Dear:Video Them!: It’s not just the police. The police are only the arm of the government. It’s a weak government that doesn’t know how to protect their people. The Spider Burglar, on the Upper East (West?) Side of Manhattan, was caught and released 18 times! Great for the insurance industry and criminal justice system, otherwise they’e be bored and poor.
I once worked as a Police Administrative Aide for the 76th and 67th Pct. One officer regularly parked next to a fire hydrant (I know his name). Once, on Utica Avenue near Flatbush I saw a police officer throw an empty box of Marlboro cigarettes onto the street (littering is illegal – they don’t enforce those laws). Standing next to the viber’s shul of 770 on Kingston I saw a bus driver, who stopped for the light, open his window and toss out a paper plate. I’ve seen numerous police cars without one headlight. Yes, they’re not angels, and their not careful with the law.
I don’t trust the police or government. Look what happened during the Pogrom. Nobody cared: City, State or Federal governments didn’t do a thing to protect their citizens, even though there was a murder on the first day. It was allowed to continue 3 more days. Perhaps there would be more murders? But, dear citizen, don’t forget to buckle up, you might get hurt!
    They care? Sheker!
Just remember: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of The United States of America, one nation, under G-d, (in)divisible, with liberty and justice for SOME!"

  • Attorney

True a judge may not always be understading, or may not always get the law right either, but at least you won’t have to get arrested in order to present your case.

  • Neighbor across the street

I came out on my porch on time to see around 5 police officers putting this man under arrest. I could not believe what I saw! They twisted his arms backwards as if he was a murderer CH"V. There were a few police women laughing & Shvartzes screaming that it was the right thing. They couldn’t care less when someone calls for help but this officer called for assistance and in seconds-the ENTIRE block was FULL of police cars. Those who say he deserved it should think what they would do if they were in a situation like his- if you wouldv’e seen the face of his wife, mother and family-poor them-they just came off the plane for a simcha and look what happens. It’s totally ridiculous that this is going on.

  • This is nuts

BH a neighbor took a video of the entire thing- how the police arrested the guy. Yisroel Shemtov came to the scene after all the poice were gone and was shouting at the family that he should not have blocked the police officer. If the "big" people are such cowards who’s going to help things change!

  • too disgusted . . .

Thanks Avi for the link to the complaint form.

Webby can you get us the officors information? Name, Rank, badge number etc.

I will certainly file a complaint, and I hope others do as well

I just was pulled over on Kingston. When I got out of the car, the policeman said that I should never get out of the car if I’m pulled over, "because it could be dangerous for you." I was questioned beligerently while they fished for some other illegalities before they told me they were from the Traffic Safety Unit. They then gave me a $40 ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

Then they got into their car, and sped away up Kingston, dodging in and out off traffic at breakneck speed, making a wide left onto President (due to the unsafe speed), and sped off into the horizon.

Traffic Safety? Are there statistics as to how many black residents of CH receive tickets for such violations?

  • LISTEN TO THE TORAH

Ei’sav Soy’neh Le’yakov Le’olam (no joke these days as well). Look at Iran they just passed a law Jews have to wear a star of David like the Germans (did you even know that, listen to 770 AM). People stop dreaming.

  • One for the cops

To the person who double parked on Kingston and got a ticket!! I applaud the cops for giving out that ticket.. double parking on Kingston became so out of hand, you cant drive normaly its like an obstacle course, and especially when a school bus or city bus or truck have to get thru and cant… and to top it off , when they are double parked behind another double parked car and back up to leave they almost hit people who are trying to cross the street like normal people!
If you feel the need to double park…. do it on a side street, where it doesnt really affect the flow of traffic or kids crossing the streets.

  • I won

Yes you can and win parking tickets!!
If they make one mistake on your ticket and you can prove it, for example they arent allowed to abbreviate, like x-walk for cross walk, or if the name of street is wrong, like Empire Ave… or the type of car is wrongly checked off, year , color, etc.
    good luck.

  • move over please

What I would like to see implemented in CH like they have in towns out of city, is markers on the side streets where one can park in between those markers, because some people just take up 2 two parking spaces, and on a block that can handle 100 cars on a side there are like 50 only.

  • Itzik_s

  • nonesence

i think that this whole thing is screwd. someone coming from montreal to ny for a weekend, and like the minute he arrives he gets a ticket. i mean like wat is this. there are cop’s waiting to give out tickets? ha thenk god i dont live in crown hight’s cause there’s cops everywhere…. an dthey seem boared..
this is nonesence. double parking ticket.. ha. wrong and verry wrong.

  • THIS MUST STOP NOW!!! SO SAIS A GOOD COP

i spoke to a cop from the 71pct today, and we spoke for a while.he was nice.
he told me,last nights story sould never have been!
he said to me ,the cop is so wrong in doing what he did, for many reasons.
he allso said things have gone out of hand!!
he gave me a piece of advice, the community as in whole, must stand together and demand a stop AT ONCE!! if not, there will be no end to this.
he is so sad as to whats going on in crown heights with the tickets.thank g-d there is one good cop out there.

  • concerned mother

    Dear One for the cops:
Okay, let’s talk about all those people who "when they are double parked behind another double parked car and back up to leave they almost hit people who are trying to cross the street like normal people!" Hello….crossing in the middle of the street is extremely dangerous. Unfortunately, here in the Heights it’s become normal and "a right." For the record, I don’t double park, cross in the middle of the street (all of us careful drivers still don’t have eyes in the back of our heads nor can we stop on a dime), or back into one way streets and I do use my seatbelt and insist that my passengers do also. We all need to wake up and be careful and realize that not everything is an emergency when we drive. Getting there safely is more important. Let us all teach our kids of ALL ages to be careful when they drive or walk.

It’s been said before, but it is worth repeating: no one should feel that arresting a Yid for such a thing can be justified. We must have ahavas yisroel for each other and be concerned when such things happen r"l. The only question is what can we do to prevent future occurrences?

  • Sheep on two feet

    The discrimination will never stop.

And we will never do anything substantial to fight it, because we are better than *them*!

    My Comments:

    1. The community MUST stand TOGETHER and PROTEST these indignities and inequities, to the Police and local Gov’t officials

    2. I grew up "out of town" which is in the United States of America. This place is the Banana Republic of Crown Heights where you can do anything you want as long as you get away with it, and that includes the cops.

I’m sick of people who own businesses and scam the government, having checks made out to "Cash" passed up and down Kingston Ave. until the bank account is closed, and especially POLICE who routinely BREAK the laws they are supposed to enforce!!

In small communities people are more friendly and there is more respect for everyone. Here it’s a giant insane asylum. I wish the Rebbe would let me move!!!

  • charlie

if people obeyed the law there would be no problems. this person and alot of the other people who made comments feel they are above the law. the police risks their lives every day for the ungrateful citizens of this city. the officer never knows if it’s a madman or a normal person that is trying to confront them. 9 times out of 10, it’s the madman. you all complain and blame the police, but just maybe if you worked with them and obeyed the law, there would not be any problems.everyone on the wrong side of the law trys and make it either a race or religion thing just because they think they can win with that rather then the facts. your recause is in a court of law, not the street.write the mayor, but remember he is the one who tells the police how many tickets they have to write each month. it’s these tickets that keep your city taxes the lowest of any area within 50 miles of new york city. on long island the average homeowner pays between $7,000 to $10,000 in property tax. respect is a two way street and from reading the comments, it appears that most do not respect the law or the police but yet want to be treated like kings and not even obey minor traffic laws. it does not work that way in america.

  • this should help

there is no point calling 311 or nyc.gov it wont help. i emailed brookyln borugh president and i got a direct number to call. here is the message:

giving tickets is ok,but NOT TO A ONE SIDE ONLY!!
I HAVE SEEN THIS WITH MY EYES!! OUT OF 18 CARS STOPPED,18 WERE JEWS!!! WHAT DOES THIS SAY??
YOU SAY RISK THERE LIVES? HA HA HA. MABE YEARS AGO.NOW THEY HAVE TO SHOW ME ITS 50/50
THERE ARE MUCH MORE BLACKS THAT LIVE IN CROWN HEIGHTS THEN JEWS!! SO LIKE I SAID I AM OK WITH 50/50

  • student

the reason plice are giving out tickets is b/c if they dont give out enough tickets they are fired.
this story doesn’t make any sense.
what does make sense that now i really understand why police give out tickets.

  • a true yid

k people stop fighting, you are all exaggerating, none of this is going to happen, so stop thinking about the negative, and more possitive
    moshiach now!

  • i think he is.cops say the mayer told us

i think he is.the cops has been throwing the words like, its the mayer of the city told us to give out a lot of tickets.so the blame is on the mayer!and he is a jew,so its ok to give the jews the tickets since it was the mayer that gave the ok.

  • Itzik_s

  • almost invincible

I am from out of town and was double parked on Carrol St. I had missed the 12-1:30 street cleaning grace period and at 1:34 got a ticket. Since I have an out of state license plate, I was advised to ignore the ticket. I did, and I have never heard from them since (it’s been almost 6 months). I do not plan to ever pay it.

  • annon

i don’t think it is nice to post pics of the scene! as it is it is a horrible experience to go through whoever is right or wrong and the family must feelo terrible and then to have pics posted for all to see at such a time isn’t nice!

  • to almost invincible

If you ever happen to be in the state of new york again with that vehicle (or with any other if the sheriff listed you as the owner), you may face charges, jail time, and the loss of your vehicle, should you be C”V spotted by a cop.

This is not intended to be offered as legal advice. Consult a lawer competent in the laws of all states involved before coming to a decision.

For your own sake though it may be wiser to pay the fine.

  • Boiling Blood & Helpless ... idea?

I think 2 thingsw ought to happen, like right away.

Firstly, to elect a 3 member grop who will work as police liasons, [it is important to recognise that this should NOT be the vaad, and they have "other priorities"]

the profile ot these liasons should be either, lawyers, or other respectful proffesionals, who don;t come off as idiots, thier connections should be with central booking, city hall as well as all the big wigs at the police departnent and puiblic officals.

And in the future if something like this happens, the police liasons should be notified, arive at the scene, and activate thier prolitical buttens, from city hall, albany, central booging, shelly silver and every politial avenue to ensure that a youngerman does not have to sit in jail with all the rapists and murderers.

Secondly, to hakel es haem hoanoshim noshim vitaf, get big numbers, and demonstrate [itls your right to do so in a peaceful way] with 5000 people in the front of 71 precent, it would be important that you get the press coverage, especcialy the libral papers like the times and the village voice, and establish it a) this behavior is pervasive and happens in other parts of the city or this behavior is exclusive to crown hieghts {and if it is exclusive proceed with a class action law suit. and b)start a citizens organization like that of the police liasons civil right group, and perhaps extend this organization to be recognized as a group with clout, and something the police recognize as something real, and someone they must answer to.

To make this happen it might have to be some youngerlight take an inititive, and even volenteers from say the members of beis shmuel, [young people who want change…] and get this group set before shevuos.
and start to work, and create a website where people can call and or complian via filling out a form on the webpage and community support will grow.

    {since I moved out of Crown Heights already 3 years ago, i cannot volenteer even if i wanto, the idea is a good one, and should be heeded as one. And if i lived in the shchuna i woul volenteer myself.}
In closing, the website on this ticket complainet should have a place where you put in the name of the officer who wrote the ticket, and we will keep tabs on which officers are the ones who give most tickets, and we can give out a mock award to the officer who gives most tickets and give them the grand award for being the greatest anti-semite in the house.

  • goodthings

i HAVE AN INGENIOUS SOLUTION!!. The reason the cops ticket the jews more often is because they find it easier to ticket the jews. simple as that. Every time they try to ticket someone else they actually get a nice verbal screaming. So heres how to stop that problem. Set up a hotline. a certain phone number that someone calls when he is being ticketed. Similar to the shomrim one. At the same time several loud and obnoctius Jews are dispatched to the location where the guy is being ticketed. They then peacefully scream and vent their anger at the cop. This makes the cop feel really uncomfortable and he stops ticketing Jews unfairly. Its just to much hastle for the cop. Its also perfectly legal.

  • CH Tickets

It is interesting – when I drive down Nostrand Ave, there is such heavy congestion there, as there are so many cars double parked. Never do I see a cop giving a ticket. I think CH is very heavily ticketed. A few months ago when I moved in to my new apt. I double parked as there was no where else to park and unload my furniture. within a few minutes I had a ticked.

  • a little advise

there is alot civilians dont know about how the law works and how police procedure goes. people who want to fight against the police for the police not being fair need to learn the rules first. police dont need to listen to your explainations, or give u a chance to move, you can be sitting in the car, and if u get in his way from him doing his job its Obstructing Governmental Authority, go read the penal law and the administrative code and the vehicle traffic law, then protect yourselfs with your own actions

  • Stoplight

If there is a law stating no double parking then he should have not parked in that location. People only want the police to enforce the laws that others break. If the officxer was no tied up arresting him for a law he knew he was breaking they would be able to spend more time fighting other crimes. Obey the traffic laws.

  • Itzik_s

If the officer had an ounce of decency or common sense he would know that when an out of town car is unloading, he should not waste time ticketing, when he should be using that time to catch real criminals (in this case dangerous traffic offenders or car thieves). A warning or a reminder was all the driver deserved if he was indeed breaking a law by unloading.

  • shaking my head in disbelief

No double parking means NO double parking. It doesn’t mean, "No double parking unless you are Jewish." Most of the comments I have read here are ludicrous! This gentleman broke the law by double parking and then tried to block the officer’s way. While the officer was undoubtedly arrogant and rude, the double-parker obvioulsy thought he was above the law. And some of the people commenting on this site are talking about staging riots and protests to protect someone who broke the law? Get real, get a life, get over it and move on!!!!!!!!

  • unimpressed

I think it is very callous to put up pictures of a yid being treated that way. Even with the faces blocked, it is very easy to see who it is. Think about the family members who had to watch this scene being played out- does it need to be on the site for all to see as well?!

I enjoy your website and the fact that there are tons of posts here, shows how many people take your site seriously, I know it’s new and your learning on the job but in the future, you gotta ask family members before posting pictures, especially such clear ones! Keep up your great coverage.
