Hamilton Resoundingly Defeats Dorancy

Crown Heights District Leader Jesse Hamilton trounced his challenger Rubain Dorancy in Tuesday’s  vote for the Democratic Party nomination to fill the vacated State Senate seat of newly-elected Borough President Eric Adams.

Hamilton will represent the 20th District, which includes Crown Heights, in the New York State Senate.

Hamilton garnered 64.9 percent of the vote, while his chief rival in the race, attorney and former Department of Education administrator Rubain Dorancy, garnered 29.9 percent of the vote, according to the New York Times. A third Democratic candidate, Guillermo Philpotts, received 5.1 percent of the vote.

Dorancy was backed by Mayor Bill de Blasio, 1199 SEIU, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and the Crown Heights Political Club.

Borough Preisdent Adams, Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Council members Brad Lander and David Greenfield and the Jewish Future Alliance backed Hamilton.

“I’m humbled and honored by the trust voters have placed in me tonight, and I’ll spend every day in Albany working to live up to it,” Hamilton said at the victory party Tuesday night. “Tonight’s results clearly show that voters in this district demand a proven progressive who will continue Borough President Eric Adams’ long legacy of delivering for our neighborhoods—and I’m proud to answer the call.” Hamilton added he had “big shoes to fill.”

Voters also re-nominated Governor Andrew Cuomo to run for re-election under the Democratic Party ticket this November, choosing him over his main challenger, progressive activist Zephyr Teachout.

  • vote for Mendy!

Guys come out and vote for Mendy Raitport on November 4th! Every vote makes a difference! All for Mendy, and Mendy for all!!

  • Look like these 'young leaders' are looking foolish about now huh?

Just goes to show you cant show up on the block and think you know it all.
you gotto take the time and work with and learn from the more experienced people who have been doing this for years.
Yes thats right, from the same people you call old and out of touch…you goto learn from them.
Then and only then can you go out on your own.
let this be a humbling learning experience if not you are bound to fail and repeat the same mistakes you made this time round. Learn from this and you may yet succeed.

With all due respect the following is a map of the NYS Senate 20th district of which we are all a part of:

How many republican voters do you suppose this district has?!? It’s cute that we will all vote for Mendy (myself included) but Hamilton’s seat in the state senate is pretty much guaranteed and the Nov 4th runoff is nothing more than a formality!
