Crown Heights Man Tracks Down Stolen Car

A Crown Heights man’s car was stolen by two teenagers after he left it unattended with the keys in the ignition, but was able to track it down thanks to a built-in GPS system.

From DNAinfo by Rachel Holiday Smith:

The 30-year-old Crown Heights man told police he left his 2013 Kia Optima sedan parked, running and unlocked outside of 665 Crown St. between Troy and Schenectady avenues around 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 26.

As he returned to the car, he saw two men get into it and drive away, he told police.

The man then activated the GPS system in the vehicle and followed the signal to Nostrand Avenue and Fenimore Street where he saw the two men driving his car.

He then called 911 and responding officers arrested the pair. The two 18-years-olds were charged with grand larceny in the third degree, among other counts, court records show.

To the owner of the car: “Stupid sees as stupid does” a proverb of wisdom!!!!!!

Why would anyone, especially round there, leave an unlocked car with the engine running? Is he stupid? Lucky, yes, but he asked for it. You don’t leave ANYTHING visible in a car in CH & certainly not with the engine running & they keys in.

To the guy who left his car “unlocked” with a welcome note for thei thiefs. You should have gotten a summons for leaving your car unattended and gotten a slap for being so stupid. You wouldnt leave your bike outside for ”5 seconds” while you ran inside. Why do it with a 20,000 car??
