Wayward Kapores Protesters Arrive Late in Crown Heights

After thousands of Crown Heights residents completed the ancient ritual of Kapores and organizers already closed up for the night, a small but vocal group of animal rights protesters arrived in the neighborhood and marched the streets with sighs and chanting slogans over a bullhorn.

The group arrived at the Beis Rivka parking lot at around 8:00pm – well after organizers already closed up for the night – and chanted briefly in front of locked gates and a number of amused bystanders. After some five minutes the group returned towards Kingston Avenue and back up to Eastern Parkway.

A white man wearing a skullcap lead the group carrying a bull horn chanting “ban kapores chick slaughter, depriving chicks food and water” while others marching in the group resorted to statements like “we should slit your throats” while tearing down signs advertising Kapores.

When the group arrived at Eastern Parkway they were advised that they are allowed to protest, but not to use the loudspeaker. The NYPD was accompanied by a member of their legal team who advised officers how to correctly deal with protesters.

A small number of young Bochurim approached members of the group engaged them in conversation while others tried to discourage them.

At around 9:30pm the group leaders announced that they were going to Boro Park to protest there – this after they could not find a single location actively doing Kapores in Crown Heights.

These ‘protesters’ are nothing but a bunch of anti-semites. Ooohhh the poor chickens… This to them is nothing more then an opportunity to mess with ‘the jews’

To argue that there are many other injustices in the world though is not a good argument. Yes there is other things that we can all protest but these pieces of filth need to be told this:

This is our religion, just the same as Bris Milah is, and if you dont like it… tooooo baaaad…

I will do Kapores, and will do it proudly.

These opportunistic hippies live a subway ride away and its convenient for them to come here and ‘make their socially required stand’ so that their friends will accept them. But you dont see them going to Tyson or Perdue to protest their barbaric ways of killing chickens…. It just isnt convenient.

So lets call an anti-Semite what he or she is… An anti-Semite.

    • Yes

      This is 100% antisemitism
if all they want is a better way to treat the chikens they are welcome to bring all the losers to crown heights and Do the Kaporos for them in the most humane way.
as long as they just tell the JEWS how to conduct Their Religion.
we must conclude that They Are SIMPLY ANTI-SEMITES.

  • They Should Slit Our Throats

Interesting that you report some in the group say they should “slit our throats.” That’s the reason behind using the chickens… so the chickens get the gevoros we deserve.

  • they write: "respect the soul of every living thing"

    bs”d
1-they don’t respect humans, they abuse them
2-if they are talking about souls, there is no greater aliya for the chicken than to be involved in a mitzva
refuah sheleima to all of the protesters
and gmar chasima tova to every Yid

    Had an interesting idea:

Since these people come into our neighborhood and try to impose their moral standards on us maybe we should do the same to them. Next time they come we should organize a counter-protest with signs for 7 Noahide Commandments. That way at the very least we can counter with imposing our (and obviously H’) moral values on them.

    What do y’all think?

  • I dont think its normal though..

seems like the bachrim arguing with these people are not coming from a good place. they seem like theyre enjoying the bashing session and thats nott the pointt. also, why are you trying to convince people who are already set in their current viewpoint. the fact that they came here means they have an opinion and youre not gonna change it. Just ignore or stand and smile and wave or take a video and post it on your family whatsapp for global entertainment :) arguing doesn’t do anything and may result in a chilul Hashem

  • self-righteous indignation

Every year you see the looks of angry, self-righteous indignation on the faces of the PETA protestors. It disturbs them that chickens necks are slit by kaparos? Just a few blocks away on East New York Ave.is a Chinese wholesale live poultry operation, where not just once a year like kaparos but EVERY DAY live chickens are sold to Chinese restaurants. Do they think those chickens enjoy the slow and painful death of being strangled in the back of some Chinatown restaurant more than by humane schita? Why aren’t those people protesting there?

  • Stay focused

It’s important to realize that ever since the beginning of time, the world picks on the minority of Jews. If you want to be an example, then simply do what Hashem says and let Him decide how to treat the world. Engaging in conversation only supports fights. Just do what you know and let G-d do the rest.

  • Zalmy.Schapiro

I’m just trying to understand something why are they making such a big deal over Kapores do you know how many people out there cannot afford food to feed their children and especially we have a lot of guests from around the world that come spend Crown Heights for Tishrei it is a great thing we are doing is the right think

  • Not anti-semitism?

Chickens are shchected year-round. Why do they davka come, for what we need to do, for Yom Kippur?

  • Unemployed Noachide

Milhouse, when they make comments like, “we should slit your throats,” then they’re definitely anti-Semitic. And I’ve never once seen these people picketing outside a McDonald’s or KFC or Church’s Chicken or Chick-fil-A, etc.

  • Dear Anti- Kapparos people

Find something else to do. You can be vegetarians but not everyone has to be one. We do what we do. You do what you do. But please stop it with all your retarted slants. We all already get your point. But guess what? You can’t try to change us. You can only change yourself. So please get a job and go home.
