Poway to Rename Street to Honor Chabad Shooting Victim

A request to change the name of a short street in northern Poway to honor Chabad of Poway shooting victim Lori Lynn Gilbert-Kaye will be considered by the City Council next week.
Eva Drive would become Lori Lynn Lane under the proposal. The road is off Stone Canyon Road and near where the 60-year-old Gilbert-Kaye lived. Only two homes have driveways off the street, with Stone Canyon addresses, and both have agreed to the name change as has the owner of a 26-acre parcel at the end of the road where future residential development may occur, city officials said.

Eva Drive is in the Green Valley neighborhood of northern Poway, roughly 1 mile south of Chabad of Poway where on April 27, the last day of Passover, a 19-year-old man opened fire killing Gilbert-Kaye and injuring several others. The congregation’s rabbi, Yisroel Goldstein, 57, lost a finger in the shooting. Two other people — Almog Peretz, 34, and his 8-year-old niece, Noya Dahan — were also injured.
