Do the Seder the Right Way This Year

Ask Rabbi Yonah Avtzon of Sichos in English what keeps him up at night and he will tell you it is the new English translation of the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch that he and his team of scholars have been working on for the past several years.

Each night, Rabbi Avtzon takes a ream of printouts of the latest drafts home with him to personally review and edit. This laborious task is a work of love that he and his team, including Rabbis Eliyahu Touger and Sholom Ber Wineberg, have toiled over; and who, please G-d, hope together complete. To date, six volumes have been published and the seventh is in the final stages of publication.

With Pesach just days away, Sichos in English has published online — ahead of the print publication — Hilchos Pesach, Siman 472 of the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch, which discusses the laws pertaining to reclining and drinking the four cups of wine at the Seder.

When the first volumes were published online on Chabad.org earlier this year, Rabbi Sholom Ber Wineberg, one of the scholars on the team, commented that the Rebbe once mentioned at a farbrengen that the Alter Rebbe’s Shluchan Aruch is included in the mandate given to the Baal Shem Tov by Moshiach that his arrival will take place “when your wellsprings will be spread out.” May this additional stage of the dissemination of the Torah of the Alter Rebbe hasten the speedy arrival of Moshiach Tzidkeinu.

The Shulchan Aruch project is underwritten by R. Yonah Mordechai and Hadassah Weiss and family, and R. Moshe Aaron Tzvi and Ruty Weiss and family, in memory of their esteemed parents, R. Yisochor Dov and Miriam Weiss, OBM.
