Daughter of Nazi Who Killed Rebbe’s Brother Asks Forgiveness

from Lubavitch.com:

Dnepropetrovsk’s Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki and his wife Chana received a delegation from Germany that came to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust killed at the Igren Hospital during WWII.

The recent discovery of archived documents and personal testimonies about the wholesale murder of patients at the hospital restores a picture of horror. This is where, 76 years ago, Dov Ber Schneerson, the brother of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, was murdered at age 38.

Mrs. Lilo Bhatia, the daughter of the German officer responsible for the murder of the Rebbe’s brother and the bloodshed at the hospital, came to ask forgiveness for her father. She visited the mass grave and the Dov Ber Schneerson memorial on the premises of the hospital and met with the leadership of the Jewish community.

Rabbi Kaminezki spoke to the delegation about the Rebbe and his lifelong work to revive Jewish life after the Holocaust.

Too little too late, who knows how a great impact there would have been on lubavitch if the rebbes brother was alive.

ונקתי דמם לא נקתי Hashem promised he will NEVER forgive the Goyim for spilling Jewish blood.

  • Learn from the past

The same thing could happen again, chas v’chalila. Hospitals take people off of life support, deny them medical treatments if they are too old or sick, look at the “quality” of life instead of trying to cure, deny proper care to some immigrants, etc. One state had a referendum to allow people to commit suicide if they are deemed terminally ill. This can easily, chas v’chalilah, be extended to people who don’t agree with ones political views or who one views as economically a burden.

  • Don't be afraid of the truth

This, that both of the Rebbe’s brothers were not what we would expect was well-known long ago, way before any publications pointing this out. However, this does not take away from the greatness of the Rebbe.
