Miami Mayor Meets with Community Leaders

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Director of The Miami-Dade Police Dept. J.D. Patterson met with some of South Florida’s leading rabbis and community leaders yesterday to discuss security plans for the various Jewish communities throughout the south Florida county over the High Holidays.

Rabbi Leibel Schapiro, Dean of the Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami, presented the mayor and director with honey cakes, and wished them continued success for the upcoming year.

Rabbi B. Korf, Headmaster of Lubavitch Education Center, spoke about the security concerns that exist all year round, and the need for permanent security solutions.

Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun of the Orthodox Alliance of Florida explained to the respective staffs of both the mayor and police the various concerns of the Jewish community.

Rabbi Mark Rosenberg, the Florida coordinator of Chesed Shel Emes and chaplain for the FHP, discussed the various agencies and the roles they are taking to protect the community, especially in North Miami Beach. The county and the rabbis agreed to meet again in the near future to follow up on the discussion of various security options and ideas.

Both the Director of the Police Dept. and the Mayor confirmed to the rabbis that all resources necessary for the Raksin murder investigation are there, and the police are working to bring the killers to justice as quickly as they can.

The mayor shared his wishes for a Shana Tova to the entire Jewish Community of Miami Dade.
