Israel to Recognize Chabad Shlichus as National Service

This morning, an Israeli government committee charged with increasing national service by Hareidi-religious Jews accepted a proposal by Knesset Member Elazar Stern (Hatenua) to recognize emissaries of the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic movement as doing national service.

The recognition would be within the framework of yeshiva students providing aid and assistance to Israelis outside the country’s borders, subject to certain criteria.

MK Stern cited Chabad for working on a completely voluntary basis without government recognition. He noted that at any given moment, Chabad sends 250-300 emissaries around the world.

MK Stern added: “One of our greatest achievements by accepting this is that we succeed in connecting Chassidei Chabad to the State of Israel and that we recognize the shluchim of the rebbe as our shluchim.”

After it was approved, committee member MK  Ofer Shelach (Yesh Atid) asked for a second vote when the committee reconvenes next week.

  • Who's shluchim?

MK Stern added: “One of our greatest achievements by accepting this is that we succeed in connecting Chassidei Chabad to the State of Israel and that we recognize the shluchim of the rebbe as our shluchim.”

No, don’t recognize us as your shluchim, recognize us as the Rebbe’s shluchim.

  • oye........#3

he specifically said “recognize the shluchim of the Rebbe” as our shluchim..
don’t we as chabadniks also call them our shluchim.??
this is a really monumental achievement……..let’s recognize it for what it is.

  • some guy

I agree with “oye”. We as jews/yiddin can not keep fighting and disagreeing with each other, especially not on little details. Moreover we are shluchim of Hashem, the Rebbe and his Chasidim I.E. all of Klal Yisroel. Lets just be shluchim, do our job and bring Moshiach

Sincerely, with all due respect to everyone and to their opinions.
    The Guy.

  • Wow what an achievement really?

This was not promoted by Chabad itself, but by someone who on the other hand is known to be a big leftist on all aspects, so take this with ten grains of salt as says “kabdehu vchasdehu”.

Ps it more has to do to sort of separate Chabad from the rest of the frum world by buying them off with this law, & so Chabad won’t be involved in efforts against the army draft law, & that means nothing for the future only: will deal with Chabad later first will take care of the general frum community then Chabad, the secular Israeli gov’ is very clever when it comes to making trouble to frum Jews.
