Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mrs. Esther Goldman, 87, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Esther Goldman, OBM, of Crown Heights, at the age of 87.

Esther was the daughter of the legendary Chosid, Reb Yochonon Gordon, OBM, the Gabbai of 770 for many years until his passing in 1969.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Reb Shimon Goldman, and her children: Rabbi Yossy Goldman, shliach in Johannesburg, South Africa; Mrs. Kraindy Klein and Rabbi Shmuly Goldman, both of Crown Heights.

She lost her daughter, Mrs. Chana Leah (Chanchy) Bruk, OBM, in 2010.

She is survived as well by her brother, Rabbi Yisroel Gordon. Her other brothers were the late Rabbi Nissen Gordon of Crown Heights and Rabbi Sholom Ber Gordon of New Jersey, OBM.

At the age of seven, Esther and her family emigrated from Dokshitz, Poland. They arrived in New York and settled in Crown Heights in 1933.

Throughout her life she was an Akeres Habayis par excellence and was a beloved and admired pillar of her whole family. Her famous kitchen was a magnetic hub for children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends from all over the world.

For several years she ran the G’mach Shomrei Shabbos, which was established by the Frierdiker Rebbe and formerly run by her father, Reb Yochonon Gordon, OBM.

She will be remembered for her open home and gracious hospitality, her dedication to Gemilus Chasodim, and her trademark sharp wit.

The Levaya will take place on Sunday, 2nd Day of Chol Hamoed Sukkos, 2:00pm at Shomrei Hadas Chapels. It will pass 770 on its way to Montefire cemetery in Queens.

The Shiva will be observed after Yomtov at her home, 603 Empire Blvd. [between Kingston and Albany Ave.]
