Video: Cops Disguise as Taxi to Give More Tickets

A CrownHeights.info reader sent us this video he caught of a “taxi cab” with flashing blue and red lights that pulled over a motorist on Eastern Parkway to issue a ticket.

The video was filmed on Eastern Parkway between Kingston and Albany Avenues.

In recent years, the six-lane artery was reduced to four lanes, and the speed limit was reduced to 25mph. Several speed cameras were installed along the parkway as well.

Don’t police cars have to be marked in oorder to have the authority to stop a car for a traffic stop

No, why would legislators make such a law? The lights are enough to let you know they’re cops, and if you’re afraid they’re impostors you can always call 911 and ask them to confirm that the people who just stopped you are indeed cops.

    Too bad.
Some people tend to drive like maniacs.
I don’t care if the cops dress as Donald Duck or Darth Vader. As long as every driver who breaks the law gets ticketed, for speeding, no seatbelts, tailgating, distracted driving, illegal turns, cutting off pedestrians in the crosswalk, whatever.
If you are not a careful, considerate driver, I hope you get lots of tickets, until you learn your lesson and practice safe driving.
A LESSON LEARNED IS WORTH EVERY DROP OF BLOOD THAT GETS SPILLED R”L BY CARELESS DRIVERS. Don’t be one of them.

  • is this real?

I would be concerned that the cop is legit and isn’t just trying to steal the victim’s wallet or who knows what. I really don’t think the NYPD would authorize that, as crazy as they may be.

  • Good job

Hey, whatever it takes to keep pedestrians and other motorists safe.

Just like you keep kosher when no one is watching – keep it at a safe speed even when you don’t think the police are around.

  • Nothing new

This is nothing new. NYPD has had this practice and these kinds of cars for years.

  • law man

    Yes it is legal
    yes they can do that
no they do not have to be in a marked police car

I agree its sick and seems like a scam but they an do it.

  • not surprised

this is old news Anti crime unit has been doing it for years & yes Mill house they did make such a law in NYC Nypd cars have to be marked why do you think precients now have marked cars without the lights on top?

  • Milhouse

That they have marked cars doesn’t mean they can’t use unmarked one. Why on earth would any city make such a foolish law to prevent the police from using unmarked cars?
