Video: Slovakians Delight in Niggunei Chabad

Rabbi Baruch Myers is the Chabad emissary to Slovakia, as well as a talented pianist. At a recent live music event, he joined three non-Jewish musicians and together they performed stirring Chabad Niggunim to the (mostly non-Jewish) crowd’s delight.

  • What a rare treat this is!

As a conservatory-trained classical musician who later came to Yiddishkeit, I have to say that this is some of the best musical arranging and performing of nigunim that I have heard in a very long time.

This is an unusual combination of instruments, and the arranger draws upon some very creative uses of the various techniques for these instruments: harmonics, unisons and single-instrument chords, etc.

    I would love to know:
    1) Who wrote the arrangements of these nigunim for this ensemble? and
    2) More about Rabbi Myers’ background in music, along with his shlichus. He is not only clearly accomplished as a pianist, but also as a collaborative musician — two separate talents/skills that not every player has!

It is clear that the audience is also blown away, and this is no small accomplishment, since European audiences are generally quite experienced concert-goers.
