Video: New Yorkers #KickDarkness

Inspired by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who would stand for hours every Sunday giving out dollars for others to pass on to those in need, a group of girls went out onto the streets of New York with a bucket of change. Rather than asking for money, they gave out money. This is what happened…

#KICKDARKNESS began as a Goodness and Kindness project with a film of local Crown Heights High School students distributing coins on Chanukah, and asking passersby to give the money to charity.

“World affairs are chaotic today, and they have marginalized what most people inherently know: that we stand for goodness and kindness and it is high time to #KickDarkness. Crowd-sourcing Kindness is to join others to make a long and strong chain that magnifies the power of kindness and goodness, one person at a time,” one volunteer told CrownHeights.info.

KickDarkness is a project of Studio 262, a new Creative Collaboration Event Space opening soon in Crown Heights. For more information, contact: studio262nyc@gmail.com.

  • Brilliant!

    Amazing idea! Great kiddush Hashem!
Keep up the good work girls.
    Which school was this?

  • Astounded

Nebach! Were is the leadership of this High school in crown heights???
    What a lack of tznus

  • wow

    this made me shiver

a smile a hug a friend so simple so easy at times so far away

    wow thank you for sharing

  • To #4

First of all these girls aren’t even dressed so bad and why are you focusing on that when these girls are doing such a great mitzvah. I’m pretty sure Ahavas Yisrael is so much more important then wearing a turtle neck and a skirt down to your ankles.

  • NS

Although best intentions have you asked Mashpiim or Chasidishe Rabonim.

What about Kol Kevuda bas Melech Penima????
We are not talking here only to get other girls to do mitzvas Vdal

    • replying...

Its not proper for a girl to hand men anything… The Rebbe no where near the degree of yiddishkeit as these girls no?

    What a great idea!

Even greater would be, if instead of GIVING away money, they would do what the Rebbe taught and ask the people to give the quarters to CHARITY….

  • To 12

The video is just a snipet
That’s the point one for them and one for charity
The girl says in beginning we are doing a charity project
Idk why everyone has to always look at the negative
The whole point is to be a light for someone and ale someone’s day
Not to nitpick and find the bad in everything

For all those who think they can do better, why hasn’t anyone taken such initiatives before ? Maybe go and support this cause and help them do bigger and better things

Ps I’m not from this group of anything just a fellow viewer

  • these girls

are well meaning, but unfortunately misguided. This is not what the Rebbe had in mind.

  • absolutely beautiful

The execution of this is wonderful – the message clear.
Touching to see the reactions as minds open up
in surprise, wonder and the happiness of giving.
The use of microphone & video drew no doubt people’s curiosity, attention and respect for this as a ‘serious’ event that merited participation.

  • why?

Why is it that whenever someone takes a good initiative people come and find a reason to put it down?
I will assume they are just jealous they havent done the same?
At least someone is taking action? What are you doing besides finding reasons why everything is wrong?
The rebbe wanted us to “crazy” out of the box.
so what these girls arent up to the highest standards , doesnt mean they cant do good.
If one must wait to be tzaddik to do good then I think everyone should look at themselves before pointing fingers (and im talking to myself too)
Whoever is behind this, Chazak Vametz, we need more people like you!!!

  • Seriously?

Where did any of you critics see any of the girls dressed not tzniyusdik? Were you stopping the video frame by frame to check out their hemlines and necklines? What sad, bored souls you must be. My guess is the Rebbe would be a lot prouder of these beautiful girls than of you.

  • Good job, critics

Can you imagine that these sweet, beautiful girls went outside their comfort zone to spread the idea of doing acts of goodness and kindness. Now they have to read people’s bashing comments.
Good job, critics. Way to encourage positive behavior.
