Video: Rabbi Yosef Wineberg Delivers Siyum on Tanya

In this video, courtesy of the Oholei Torah Archive Department, Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, OBM, who passed away this morning, delivered a Siyum on Tanya at the Oholei Torah Mesivta on Troy Avenue on 28 Sivan, 5770.

The farbrengen was held in conjunction with a Siyum on Tanya for the bochurim of Shiur Gimmel, who chazzered the entire Tanya Ba’al Peh. The event was organized by Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm, Dean of the Oholei Torah Mesivta.

That year was also the 50th since Rabbi Wineberg began the Shiurim on Tanya in Yiddish on the radio. The event was one of the last public farbrengens Rabbi Wineberg spoke at before he fell ill.

Rabbi Wineberg began by saying how pleasantly surprised he is to attend an event that is completely spoken in Yiddish, and how dear the Shiurum B’Tanya were to the Rebbe, being that they were said, written and printed in Yiddish.

what a great man. He had kovod for all, and just as much for the not well known, “little” known people in our shechuneh. That is the sign of a great man

He was a very close friend of Rabbi Greenglass and of the same caliber. They will now learn together once again. Once, when they were still bochurim Rabbi Greenglass was in New york and didn’t have a place to sleep. Rabbi Wineberg invited him to sleep in his room. When Rabbi greenglass hesitated as there was just the one bed, Rabbi Wineberg said when I’m ready to go to sleep I will wake you in the meantime get some sleep. And so he stayed up all night, and each time that Rabbi Greenglass awoke he claimed not to be finished with his shiurim. and thus enabled Rabbi Greenglass to sleep the entire night in his bed.
