This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 111, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info, beginning at 8:00pm. How Extreme Should I Be in Filtering Children’s Exposure?

We know that the most impressionable stages of life are the early ones, and therefore the Rebbe advises us to filter what we expose our children to, like showing them images of only kosher animals. What is the source for this advice? Why is it so important? To what extent should we go in keeping their environment one of Kedusha?

A close friend of mine has a hard time believing in herself. She forgets that she’s talented, capable and a pleasure to be around. I’d love to help her recognize her self-worth and boost her self-confidence, but I struggle with confidence myself. Is it possible for me to help her if the remedy is one I myself am in need of? And if it is possible, how can I help her?

Being that Beis Nissan this week marks the 96th yahrzeit of the Rebbe Rashab and the transference of leadership to the Frierdiker Rebbe, can you please shed some light on the day’s significance and message for us?

Rabbi Jacobson will address these relevant issues in this week’s 111th episode of MyLife: Chassidus Applied. Other topics that will be discussed include the prominence of the Rambam, and advice to someone who’s a subject of jealousy.

Rabbi Jacobson will also review the following essays submitted in last year’s MyLife: Chassidus Applied essay contest:  “Beginning with Ourselves” by Aryeh Weinstein; “Hypocrisy” by Mendel Adelman; and    “Small Actions for Deep and Lasting Change” by Shneor Ashkenazi. These and other essays can be read online at meaningfullife.com/essays.

And finally, the Chassidus question of the week: Emunah and bitachon are two fundamental principles in Judaism, which require constant cultivation, as elaborated upon in Chassidus. Believing and trusting in G-d, and recognizing the virtue in everything, are all lumped under one umbrella definition of emunah/bitachon. I know that each one is a different type of avodah, but what is the specific and practical difference between the two?

This hour-long dose of insights is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. In what has now become a staple in so many people’s lives, MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high and great care has to be taken when speaking openly, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in week after week. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

In inimitable “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.

All episodes are immediately available for viewing in the MLC’s archive and can be downloaded as MP3s for listening on the go.
