Sikh Landlord Gives Chabad House in Need Free Rent

As Chabad of Saskatoon, Canada, under the leadership of Rabbi Raphael Kats, is forced to move out of its current location, landlord Bob Dhillon, a Sikh, stepped in to provide them with free rent until it can find a new home.

From The Canadian Jewish News:

Dhillon, who runs the Alberta-based rental company, explained that this donation of rental fees isn’t part of some established program or initiative, rather just an isolated act of kindness.

“We wanted to help these rabbis out and that’s it,” said Dhillon, who said he is Sikh, but very close to the Jewish community.

“A lot of my shareholders are Jewish, and a lot of the people I work with are Jewish,” he said, adding that when they learned of his donation, they encouraged him to share his story, so as to encourage other landlords to follow suit.

Dhillon said he wanted to help the rabbis, because “they help humanity and spread the word of spiritualism.”

SIkhism is probably the religion closest to authentic Judaism. It’s a lot closer than “Conservative Judaism” is, let alone the strange set of beliefs that goes under the names “Reform Judaism” and “Unitarian Universalism”.

However this Dhillon doesn’t look very frum. No beard, shortish and uncovered hair. His right wrist isn’t showing so we can’t see whether he’s wearing a bracelet, but I doubt it.

the Rebbe never made distinction between jews

by the way (sikhs or any other religion ) you don’t need to be religious to give Tzedaka

  • Great to see goyim doing chesid

I wish the local landlords who are Jewish some are even chasidish would give one month rent free to help with yom tov groceries and clothing for the family.

Just think about 1 month of rent can really make a big difference in a renters family’s life.

Free kappores chickens are great however a month rent free would be a real uplifter for the community.

Sid Stevens a Jew here in Montreal who runs Sun Youth, said in a radio interview that the Sikh community is the only one that they don’t provide food baskets for their poor because they do it 100% themselves, but they are also among the biggest donors and volunteers. Total givers not takers.
