Congressman Attends S. Diego Chabad’s 30th

Chabad of Poway, California, a suburb of S. Diego, marked its 30th anniversary with a gala dinner and auction which drew several hundred guests, including congressman Scott Peters (D).

From the S. Diego Union-Tribune:

Congressmen Scott Peters addressed the crowd and expressed appreciation for the community programs the Chabad of Poway has provided over the past three decades.

Pioneering members of the Chabad since 1986 were honored with the “hamotzi’—blessing on the bread—to thank them for their support.

A montage of the Chabad’s history was shown during dinner, bringing back memories of the Chabad’s early days in different store fronts until the purchase of Chabad’s permanent home off Rancho Bernardo Road and other milestones. Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, director of Chabad of Poway, talked about how he was inspired to move to San Diego from Brooklyn NY in 1986 and start the Chabad here. Entertainment included acclaimed mind reader and mentalist Marc Salem.
