Belorussian Jews Rejoice over New Torah

Hundreds of community members and guests participated lately in the festive inauguration of a renewed Torah scroll, donated to the historical grand Synagogue of Bobruisk, Belarus, that had just celebrated 200 years to its establishment.

The event also marked the Bar Mitzvah of Ilya Pranovich, a young and active member of the community.

The last letters of the Torah scroll were written in a special ceremony, and continued with a colorful parade that made its way through the city’s streets towards the Synagogue.

After arriving at the hall, dancing and singing were held in honor of the new Torah scroll, and the event concluded with a festive meal that continued for many hours.
