New Synagogue and Sefer Torah for Poltava, Ukraine

Shturem

The Jewish community of Poltava in central Ukraine rejoiced today with the dedication of a new Synagogue and community center, under the directorship of Chief Rabbi and Chabad Shliach Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Segal.

The celebration was intensified by the welcoming of a brand new Sefer Torah, which will be housed in the holy ark of the new Shul.

The renovations and new Torah were sponsored by Yisroel Broly of Moscow, Russia, in memory of his parents Dovid and Rivka, OBM. The new Synagogue carries their names: Beis Dovid V’Rivka.

I am very happy to see the revival of Jewish life and culture here in Poltava, Ukraine. I live in the United States but my great-grandfather who was Jew was born and raised here in Poltava, Ukraine and I stumbled upon this article while researching my family history. It is great to see that the tragedies inflicted upon our people (the Jews) have not and will not crush the Jewish people and lifestyle. Anyways it was great seeing this and I hope to visit Poltava in the near future and learn more about its history, my family and its Jewish culture.
