Friendship Circle Walk Raises $1.1 Million

For its second year in a row, the Friendship Circle of South Bay, California under the auspices of Chabad of Redondo Beach, raised over $1 Million with over 11,000 attending its annual Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. The walk was organized in partnership with the Sketchers Foundation and Nickelodeon.

The Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is touted as the largest event supporting children with special needs and education. The event has broken fundraising records every year since its 2009 launch. The Walk has raised more than $4 million to date to support The Friendship Circle and the Sketchers Foundation.

Among the celebrities in attendance were gossip column host Ellen K, actress Brooke Burke-Charvet, and former L.A. Dodgers pitcher and hall of famer Tommy Lasorda.

Some 11,000 people attended the walk and together they raised $1,171,645.34, breaking last year’s record of just over $1 million.

The walk begins near the Manhattan Beach pier and stretches 3.5 miles. Participants walk to the Hermosa Beach pier, then turn around and walk back. The walk took place on October 26th, and featured a live concert, photo booth and dance shows.

The Sketchers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is arranged in partnership with the Friendship Circle of the South Bay, which is directed by Rabbi Yossi Mintz of Chabad of Redondo Beach, CA.
