Kids Enjoy Camp Reunion in South African Winter

While school children and camps around the world are warming up for summer, in South Africa’s Cape Town they are buttoning up for another winter; the Summer’s December holiday is a distant memory.

But not for long! This Sunday, all the kids from Cape Town’s Camp Gan Izzy packed into the Chabad House for an unforgettable Camp reunion. The kids piled in as they were gearing up to relive a day in camp!

After starting the day with a traditional Gan Izzy lineup, cheer, camp song, and beautifully recited Pesukim, the kids got a chance to do a stunningly arranged arts and crafts project, each child walking away with their own personal memento.

The kids all made a huge circle playing the ever favorite game “Indian Chief,” while the smiles and laughter abounded. “It’s so special to see all the CGI kids coming back together with such happiness on their face,” head counselor Meir Fellig said. “Our hope is that the message of ”ivdu es Hashem b’Simcha that we brought alive all summer along, will now carry them in to the winter as well.”

After a tiring competitive game, the kids all sat down for a pre Shavuos “make your own ice cream party,” learning all about Shavous; they were also reminded about the importance of coming on Yom Tov morning to hear the ten commandments.

For the grand finale, the children enjoyed a very entertaining video of ‘flashbacks’ of their fondest CGI memories – preparing them for the summer of 2012 – just six months away!

The camp reunion was arranged by the Talmidim Hashluchim, under the auspices of camp directors Rosie and Levi Popack.
