Keren Hashanah: Charity for Every Day of the Year

Unforgettable to those that were there, and relivable today via video (see below), in the first sicha spoken by the Rebbe, with Herculean physical effort, after the devastating “episode” of Shemini Atzeret, 1977, the Rebbe reminded his Chasidim to continue keeping his directives: Chitas, Keren Hashana and the mivtzoim.

Sixty year ago, during Tishrei of 1953, the Rebbe founded a very innovative tzedaka fund, he called it “Keren Hashanah — the Fund for the Year.” The Rebbe explained that this fund would ensure that everyone gives to charity every day of the year. The fund, which the Rebbe created within his Machne Israel institution,  would disburse tzedaka twice every single day on behalf of all those that participated in the fund. The Rebbe said that donations should be made on behalf of all members of the family in the amount matching the number of days in the year. (See Likkutei Sichos volume 2, page 651)

The fund continues to operate in this fashion until this very day.

Throughout the years, during the month of Tishrei, the Rebbe would publicly encourage participation in this fund.

To be certain that you, too, are part of what the Rebbe founded 60 years ago, please donate online, by mail, in person or by phone:
