The weather was a balmy 62 degrees yesterday and it’s expected to be 63 degrees today.

That’s more than 20 degrees above normal.

And it’s expected to last through Saturday – with maybe a few showers here and there.

Normal highs for this time of year should be in the upper 30s, the National Weather Service said.

For yesterday and today, the normal high should have been 38 degrees.

Instead, the mercury reached 62 degrees yesterday. That’s high – but not a record.

The record was 64 degrees in 1907.

Today, the thermometer should rise one degree higher, to 63 degrees.

But that still won’t make the record books.

The record is two degrees higher – 65 – and it was set in 1998.

For this balmy weather we have to thank winds that are blowing in a counter-clockwise direction and are bringing warm air from the Gulf of Mexico to the Eastern Seaboard.

The winds are keeping cold air from Canada at bay and even in Maine, temperatures are in the lower 40s.

Starting tomorrow, temperatures will gradually decline, with a high of a comparatively chilly 42 – actually, not bad at this time of year – expected on Sunday.
