New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration is reconsidering the “broken windows” theory of policing, pioneered by former mayor Rudy Giuliani and former NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly, in which minor criminal offenses such as public drinking and littering are treated very seriously by law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

From the Associated Press:

The city that pioneered “broken windows” policing is retooling its longtime strategy of trying to reduce serious crime by cracking down on people who commit minor offenses, like public drinking and littering.

With crime at historic lows, New York City leaders have rolled out a series of proposals aimed at unclogging courts and jails and undoing damage done to poor, minority neighborhoods by generations of mass incarceration.

  • And while we're at it....

We’ll have doctors ignore “minor” maladies, so we can “unclog” waiting rooms and examination rooms at hospitals and doctors’ offices.

No more “cracking down” on illnesses and conditions when they are minor.

    This’ll solve everything…oh, wait: That’s what’s done under Obamacare!
