Storm to Dump More Snow on Winter-Weary New York

Despite the long-awaited onset of spring, the tri-state area can expect to get more snow this week as a ‘nor’easter’ is expected to hit the region tomorrow night. However, forecasters say, the area should be spared from the worst of the wintry spring storm.

After a chilly start to the week, snow is expected to begin falling Tuesday evening. Light snow is expected for most of the region through the early morning Wednesday, but coastal areas could see more.

New York City should see a coating of up to an inch, but parts of Long Island and the Jersey shore could get 2 inches.

Some initial computer models showed more significant snowfall for the area, forecasters say, but the most intense parts of the storm should stay over the Atlantic Ocean as the system moves by.

The storm is expected to bring frigid temperatures and whipping winds Wednesday. Temperatures should rebound quickly, with highs hitting the upper 50s again by Friday.

Since the start of December, 57.4 inches of snow have fallen in Central Park, making this the seventh snowiest winter on record for New York City.
