With great sadness we report the passing of Hatomim Rabbi Yehoshua Wilansky OBM, a long time resident of Crown heights. He passed away shabbos morning.

Rabbi Wilansky was born an only child in Brooklyn, New York soon after his fathers passing. At a young age his mother sent him to be one of the first students of Tomchei Temimim in Crown Heights. When he turned 13 years old, as he was not living with his family, Rebbitzin Nechama Dina prepared his Bar Mitzvah.

Rabbi Wilansky had the rare zechus to Drive the Rebbe three times, and in 1950 he was one of those who signed the petition for the Rebbe to take on the nesiyus. As a bocher the Rebbe sent him to Rochester NY to learn Shchita, and later on he became a mohel.

After he got Married he was a Shliach in Bridgeport, CT as a principal in the local school. On advise from the Rebbe he moved back to New York for the chinuch of his children.

Rabbi Wilansky also had the notable achievement of finishing Shas at age 78, after 19 years of learning.

Rabbi Wilansky was the embodiment of ahavas yisroel. His family meant the world to him and made sure to be at all their simchas. His home was open to family and strangers alike where he always had a friendly smile and was loved by everyone who knew him.
