Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mrs. Gittel Weiss, OBM

With great sadness and pain, we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Gittel Weiss, OBM, dedicated Shlucha and pillar of the Lubavitch community in Manchester, UK.

Her passing, which occurred on Shabbos, follows a prolonged illness, during which Jews over the world mobilized to pray for her recovery.

Aside from her many children and grandchildren who follow in her path, she leaves behind many organizations and initiatives that she built from the ground up, including the Ohel Yosef Yitzchak girls and boys schools – and the Lubavitch Yeshiva of Manchester, which she helped found with her husband Rabbi Sholom Weiss. She will be sorely missed by her community and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Rabbi Sholom Weiss, and children: Dovber Weiss (Crown Heights), Mrs. Ruthie Rosenbaum (Melbourne, Australia), Mrs. Sara Rosenfeld (Miami, FL), Mrs. Miriam Cohen (Melbourne, Australia), Mrs. Dina Creeger (Cincinnati, OH), Rabbi Shmuli Weiss (Jerusalem, Israel), Mrs. Basheva Roitblat (Crown Heights), Mrs.Baila Greenfeld (Crown Heights), Ashira Weiss (Manchester/Crown Heights), Rabbi Mendy Weiss (Richmond, VA), Brocha Weiss (Manchester/Crown Heights) and Rabbi Moshe Weiss (Melbourne, Australia).

She is survived as well by her siblings: Mrs. Beryl Guttentag (London, UK), Mr. Bentzion Grosskopf (Manchester, UK) and Mr. Danny Grosskopf (Manchester, UK).

The levaya will take place tomorrow, Sunday morning, in Manchester, UK.

    I can not express the sadness that overcame upon hearing the horrible news. The few encounters I had with Mrs. Weiss will always be dear to me. She treated me like a son. An extraordinary exemplary human being. I am so sorry for your loss.

    Growing up in manchester, she was an example of a true chasidicher woman. B”H with a house full of children k”h she was always busy with different projects and events. She came from a non-lubavitch family, just like her husband Shalom, which made a big impact on the whole manchester Jewish communities. From camps, day school and the yeshiva she truely represented lubavitch in her daily activities…My her children know her mother was mosesa nefesh for the Rebbe’s work of putting manchesters Jewish community on the map and Yiddishkiet. She was never honoured at a neshi event, or kinnus hashluchos, quite and humble person who always got the job done.She deserves the name Mrs Manchester in every aspect of her short life…B”DE and my she be a betiar for alya yidden and her family.
