Boruch Dayan Hoemes: R’ Meir Roness, 74, OBM

With sadness and pain we inform you of the passing of Reb Meir Roness, OBM, a longtime resident of Crown Heights. He was 74 years old.

R’ Meir was a well-known figure in Crown Heights who was frequently seen collecting tzedakah, which went to support Tanya Shiurim in non-Lubavitch yeshivos. As a Bochur he began organizing the Shiurim himself, and later went on to support them. A task he did until his last days.

He is survived by his wife, Devorah, and their children: Chanie Abramowitz (New Haven, CT), Dini Gotlieb (Toronto, Canada), Dvorie Botnick (Crown Heights), Mushky Roness (Crown Heights) Yossi Roness, Shumi Roness, Zevi Roness (Crown Heights) and Mendy Roness (Crown Heights).

The Levaya will take place today, Wednesday, and will be passing by 770 at around 2:00pm.

I never knew the money went to Tanya shiurim, I just thought he needed the money. We can all learn something from the fact that he cared more about hafatzos mayanos than about himself.

  • Special man

He was a special man. It happened a few times that I did not have cash on me, and he always still smiled and made me feel good. May his Neshama have an Aliyah.

  • Crown heights big loss

He raised money for shiurim in chassidus in many neighborhoods. He was a humble non assuming special man.

Reb Meir OBM organized Tanya shiurim for 40 years and raised money for this purpose. The Rebbe once said about R’ Meir גדול זכותו ואשרי חלקו (great is his merit and praised is his share)

I remember him in camp Gan Yisroel in the early 60’s as a rotating counselor which made our day very exciting.

He was a ruach of chassidus in camp. When campers of other non-Chabad camps came to play against us, he would make sure the game begin with an uforatzo and son.

  • I WILL MISS

The How are you? and Moshiach Now! and the smile and niceness which came with it
    A really special yid

    Very sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just saw him Thursday night at the Yunik~Rosenfeld Lechaim @ the JCM and gave him my usual $20.00

JUST TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT:

He wasn’t a Meshulach or anything like it …
He accumulated large debt bc of organizing Tanya shiurim in many Non Chabad yeshivos….(rental car, books, food etc. etc. and subsequently was forced to raise money to cover the HUGE debt…

a real loss of a great alway positive man :(

That reb. Meir A”H was nifter Erev Chof Daled Teves, is certainly no coincidence.
It would not be unreasonable to assume that the thousands of Perokim Tanya learned by yeshiva bochurin & kollel yungerleit over the past 50 years – as a result of his efforts (in spite of many obstacles, personal hardships and self sacrifice) – will gain him entrance to the Chof Daled Teves farbrengen “L’maleh”
    Moshiach Now.

worked many brissim in crown heights and saw him at just about every one. didnt have a clue what he was collecting for!

  • Zalmy Schapiro

wow it’s very shocking and very sad he is a one of the most sweetest people of Crown Heights

  • Us mere mortals mankind grieve

But no doubt upstairs all the lights are shining bright and there’s a big entourage no less led by the holy alter rebbe himself to greet one of his most devoted disseminators who spread his word tirelessly for half a century!
