Rabbi Menachem  Schneerson Becomes  Successor to the Lubavitcher Rebbe Z’tzl

A committee of Lubavitcher Chassidim visited our newsroom yesterday to report the news that the Chabad Congregation of America and of the world, has appointed Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, son-in-law of the Lubavitcher Rebbe Z’tzl, as successor to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, in the capacity of nossi and leader of Chabad, continuing the chain of the Chabad dynasty, dating back to the Rebbe, R’Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the Baal Ha’Tanya and the Shulcahn Aruch.

The Committee included Harav Meir Ahkenazi, former Chief Rabbi of Shang Hai and now of New York, Harav Shlomo Aharon Kazarnovky – Rabbi of “Benei Yitzchak” Shul of Mapleton Park and of “Tiferes Yisroel” of Bensonhurst and Harav Scheur Zalman Gurary, son-in-law of the Kapitchnitzer Rebbe.

The Committee, which represents all Chabad Chassidim of the land, reported that last Tuesday evening, the 24th of Teves, yartzeit of the Rebbe, R’ Schneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of Chabad Chassidus, a K’sav Hiskashrus (declaration of devoted connection), signed by the Chassidim, was presented to the new Rebbe. The official inauguration day will take place on the first yartzeit of the Rebbe, R’ Yosef Yitzchok Z’tzl, on Wednesday the 10th of Shvat.

Lubavitcher  Chassidim  of the U.S. and Canada will gather on Yud Shvat, joining the delegations of Chassidim form the Holy Land, England and France.

A gathering of Chabad Chassidim already took place in Eretz Yisroel a number of months back, at which time they accepted the leadership of the new Rebbe and composed a K’sav Hiskashrus (declaration of devoted connection), which was sent to New York.

The newly inaugurated Rebbe comes from the Chabad dynasty of Rebbes and is considered one of the great leaders of our time – known for his outstanding scholarship in both Chassidus and Kabbala.
