Report: Kletzky Murderer to Plead Guilty

NY Daily News

Levi Aron

The Brooklyn Butcher will likely die in prison in a plea deal that’s been agreed to by all sides, the Daily News has learned.

Levi Aron, who shocked the city last summer when he kidnapped, killed and dismembered 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky, will receive a prison sentence of 40 years to life, according to sources.

“There is a deal,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who represents the Borough Park neighborhood where Leiby lived and has been speaking on behalf of the boy’s family.

“But can things change? Until this is officially announced, things can change.”

Aron, 36, is due back in Brooklyn Supreme Court next Thursday, Aug. 9.

“The family has to live with this for the rest of their lives. They want to bring this to a conclusion,” said Hikind. “The idea of having a trial was not something that they wanted to go through. They want to make sure that there is justice.”

Defense lawyers for the confessed child killer, Howard Greenberg and Pierre Bazile, had no comment. But neither lawyer refuted the fact that a plea deal is pending.

Prosecutors had no immediate comment.

Aron, who became known as the “Brooklyn Butcher” after the gruesome crime, is accused of snatching the lost boy off the street last July, holding him captive for more than a day and smothering him upon realizing a massive search was underway.

He then chopped up the body, leaving the boy’s feet in his freezer, police said.

The defense has argued that their client, who grew morbidly obese in jail, is schizophrenic and has vowed to pursue an insanity defense. They have recently turned over the results of a psychiatric exam by their expert to prosecutors, but it wasn’t clear whether it concluded that an insanity claim is viable or not.

A friend of Leiby’s parents, who recently welcomed a new baby, said the boy’s father, Nachman Kletzky, has been discussing the plea with leaders in the Jewish community.

“They don’t want to have any more open wounds,” the friend said.

Under the pending deal, Aron would get 25 years to life in prison for murder, plus 15 years for kidnapping, a source said. He is currently facing life without parole if convicted of the top charge of first-degree murder.

Hikind said he plans to read a statement from the family at next week’s court appearance, but warned that nothing is final until the disposition is approved in court.

“At any moment, Levi Aron can change his mind,” Hikind said.

Let’s hope that they put him among the general prison population and not in solitary. The other prisoners will torture and torment him there for the rest of his miserable, sick life.

What a sicko. I can’t imagine what Leiby’s HY”D family is going through.

I hope he’ll never get out of prison, even if unfortunately I doubt it.One thing is sure, however:his life will be hell because he’ll have to stay all his sentence in solitary or protective custody as he would otherwise be attacked immediately if regular convicts get in touch with him.

For sure he’s suffering in solitary; for sure he’s having panic and schitzo attacks; for sure he’s gaining weight; all signs that the justice system doesn’t have to do anymore; Hashem is already finishing off “THE BUTCHER OF BORO PARK”.

  • Saddened by the Loss As Well As the Hate

Justice is not about revenge or hatred. It is about punishment for sin. Vengeance is mine, saith the L-rd!

May Gd never let our hearts cross the line of vengenance instead of justice.

May Gd never hate us for our sin!

  • Gd can heal the wounds. Let Him!

To 770, sadly, most of us are fat animals as few of us have dealt with our animal natures that stuff ourselves with food, take revenge on others, indulge our lusts, laugh at the pain of others, indulge in the pleasure of causing pain, embarassment and mocking of others, kill, maim and destroy others by our selfish, hateful ways, and the like!

May none of us ever let ourselves or our children/family/friends go so far into sin that a mother’s precious little baby boy one day turns into another mother’s child butcher!

While my heart is wrenched for the Kletzky family, my heart is likewise wrenched for Levi and his family. The name Levi has a deep history which his parents obviously wanted for him when he was named!

One must remember what Abraham said on his deathbed, “Simeon and Levi are brethren; Weapons of violence their kinship…in their anger they slew men…in their self-will they houghed oxen.” In Levi’s self-will, he killed Lieby!

While Abraham said that, Gd still made them priests….

Just as hard as that is to understand, so too is this event.

May the healing that can flow through the community one name Levi cover the pain and wounds likewise created by one named Levi.

May Gd heal the pain and loss experienced by many with the loss of this precious child! May it be a daily reminder that unless sin is dealt with, it will visit our families for generations. May it be a daily reminder that even in our sin, Gd still loves us!

Remember, the enemy is not Levi, the enemy is sin! The intend of sin is to capture men and women like Levi until they become pawns that do nothing but destroy!

for all of you angrily screaming “death penalty,” the torah view of chiyuv misa is ULTIMATELY rachmanous. death to the physical body, to release the poor neshama that could no longer control it. levi aron is our jewish brother, despite his heinous crime. we must not continue with this pointless hatred. DO YOU THINK THE REBBE WOULD HATE LEVI ARON? or would he look at him with sadness and compassion? i truly, deeply think the latter. may G-d comfort the kletzky family and may we be zoche to greet moshiach immediately. i look forward to meeting beautiful leiby.

  • Mitnagid

#20,I don’t know whether the Rebbe would hate or not this sicko;but I HIGHLY dout HKBH would not hate him. After all,we have free will;thus we are responsible for our deeds.

  • Haven-t Jews Suffered Enough for Sin?

In the text for the week, there is a very interesting thought when Moses reminds his charges that if they do not obey Gd, they will be destroyed by their enemies and lose their land. That thought is….I will never loose you; I will never destroy you (even though you sin, murder, worship idols, etc.)

May not one Jew be loosed! May not one Jew be destroyed!
