Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Firebombing Paris Supermarket

Two years ago, four people were injured in a firebombing of a Kosher supermarket located in a predominately Jewish neighborhood in Paris. Recently the arsonist, a 27-year-old ambulance driver, was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison.

The JTA reported that the arsonist, only identified as Abbas C., who is 27-years-old and an ambulance driver, torched the Kosher supermarket in a crime fueled by antisemitism and hate.

Abbas C. was sentenced on October 26th by the The Correctional Tribunal of Pontoise located outside of Paris. He was given a longer term than the 26 months sought by the prosecutor.

โ€œThis sentence reflects the determination of the judiciary to fight anti-Semitic crimes,โ€ Rabbi Haim Korsia, the chief rabbi of France, told JTA on Tuesday.

Besides arson, Abbas C. was convicted of assaulting police officers, whom he pelted with stones, and the aggravated theft of a television set from a shop whose display window was smashed by rioters on the day of the fire.
