An emergency was declared at Ben Gurion Airport Monday Morning, after a plane tire blew out upon its launch in Germany. The plane was planning to belly land on the tarmac in Israel, but after an IAF fly by, landed safety on its wheels.

The plane, an Electra Airways Boeing 737-400 experienced the malfunction upon takeoff from the airport in Cologne, Germany, with 152 passengers and crew are aboard. The plane was scheduled to land at 4:05 PM Israel time.

The alert level at Ben-Gurion Airport was raised to level 3 after the remains of one of the wheels of the plane were found on the runway in Germany, and all flights were diverted to land at Ramon Airport.

Magen David Adom teams, officers, firefighters and paramedics were rushed to the airport from Gush Dan to secure the landing of the plane, and ambulances and intensive care ambulances were making their way to Ben-Gurion Airport before the plane landed.

However, at the time, it was not clear how much damage the plane had sustained during takeoff. When the plane arrived at Israel’s air space, the IAF tested the aircraft and reported to Ben-Gurion airport manager via the control tower. The plane was expected to land on route 30 from east to west.

Ultimately, the plane landed safely, without any injuries.
