Shabbos morning at 5:00 a group of 4 males of mixed races walked passed the Kol-Tuv grocery store and began planning their robbery, they walked back and fourth for more then a half an hour, during which they had cut the gate [at appx. 5:28] then continued walking back and fourth.

At 5:30 one of the group actually got into the store. Now contrary to what has been reported by other news sources, the alarm had been functioning properly, the reason it did not go off immediately was since the expansion of the grocery they had demolished a wall, and on that wall there was an alarm sensor mounted, it had been moved from its proper position rendering it useless.

What really happened at Kol Tuv

A point I would point out is the thief’s stupidity, on countless occasions throughout their robbery you can clearly see them looking at the cameras, and its not like these cameras are hidden in any way.

At 5:29am one of the group went into the store through the hole he had cut in the gate earlier and was in the store for a total of 1 minute, during the time you see him behind the counter looking for valuables and trying to get into the cash register, then the alarm gose off and he panics so he grabs a few calling cards of the wall and runs, on the outside cameras you can see all of them running.

From the cash register all thy got were some bills left over in there and the calling cars which all together amount to no more then $1500 at the most.

does this mean that all of us are being filmed on Shabbos and Yom Tov whenever we pass by the store??

The Camera Footage is proof of incompetent and inadequate Police Patrolling of the area .. Which is
particularly distressing since Kingston is a major
Business that requires extensive and frequent patrolling…
A copy of This footage should be brought to the DA’s attention as well as proof to City officials of the
    nonsence that goes on….

  • surveillance

well, hopefully they will catch them. i think that all the store’s and streets should be surveillanced at certain hours. it would be much much safer because then people would know that lets say from sundown to sunrise or like from 8pm to 8am there are cameras watching and so people would think twice to mug someone on the street or to break into a store. i know that people dont want to be "Watched" wherever they go, so the cameras would only be on when its dark just for safety. i think it is a very possible and practical idea that should be considered-that on every street there are cameras monitoring the sidewalks from every angle at night.
i would definitely feel safer that way.

  • Concerned

a camera is not going to jump in and save you in an emergency G-d forbid – we need live patrols and not just cameras which are only good after the fact, if at all.

  • surveillance

to concerned: your right, cameras wont just "jump in" but if people know they are being watched then they would would think twice before robbing a store or mugging someone.
and yes i agree with you 100% that we should have police patrolling too.
